Thanks for mentioning this, Whitlam’s 25% tariff reduction (all in one hit mind you) was insane and nonsensical. Driven by ideological spite towards the US auto companies, despite them employing thousands of Australians?

Not to mention the Button Car Plan which allowed for the demise of Nissan, Ford Eagle Farm, Homebush etc? And that was under a far more moderate Labor give than the one we have now.

Not a chance Holden was going to stay with Ford gone.
