It is possible to insure an unrego'd car, I'm doing just that at the moment. Theft and damage while in the shed basically, I can't drive it however....
I feel sorry for the people involved in the house. They should be covered by their own insurance who will pursue the driver for financial recovery.
I'm not sure however if he will have to pay a cent depending if he finds himself having to declare bankruptcy, a radical move considering what stands to lose taking that path.
Either way, I imagine a cheap XW GT will be finding it's way on the market fairly soon.
