maybe its just your terminology, but this is wrong. you don't get a soot cloud following any diesel vehicle. even trucks prior to adblue would only emit a cloud of exhaust on acceleration, not cruising. If you are getting a soot cloud under cruise conditions, then there is an issue with the car somewhere. you would have black witness marks all over the bumper.
even cruising at 100 with a van in tow doesn't cause it to have a soot cloud. front of the van would be covered in soot. I've driven for over 5hours with a van in tow with no soot build up on the bumper or front of the van.
the only time I get smoke from mine is under fairly heavy acceleration. same with those I've witnessed around the place.
