The OP posted an opinion piece from "60 starts at sixty". That article quoted a report from the Courier Mail as its source. The Courier Mail article refers to a claimed leaked document from the Department of transport as its source.

The Courier Mail claims a leaked document from the Department of transport include “TMR has received complaints and suggestions from members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community about displaying gender/sex (M or F) on TMR cards.”

The Courier Mail (and many others) then makes the leap that Queensland removed gender from Drivers Licences because of complaints made by the LGBTI community. Therefore the majority of the population have to bow to the wishes of a minority group. Therefore this is another example of political correctness gone mad!

What if the original source for this outrage was a beat-up?

Specifically;
-When asked the Department of transport said complaints from the LGBTI community was not the reason for the change.

-This is old news, all new and renewed Queensland licences have been gender-free since October 2016, but TMR continues to collect and record information on gender when a person applies for a licence.

-Queensland is just moving in line with the rest of Australia, it's the last State to remove gender for their licence.

-The department responsible said the primary drivers for the move to scrap the information were amendments to the Commonwealth Sex Discrimination Act in 2013 and the improvement of biometric imaging and facial recognition technologies.

-Improvements in technology means information that identifies an individual can be readily accessed in other ways. For example, police have 24-7 access to this information, including the digital photograph as it appears on the licence, through QLite tablet devices.
