They are the same shell - only the cosmetic treatments of the nose & tail differ, so they are exactly the same size in the critical dimensions (width, height, legroom, hip room etc).
Toyota seemed to think "large" required a V6, and "mid size" required only a 4 - and attempted to position the car in both size categories, despite it being the same size car.
