It was part of a deal, take Focus production, give up I-6 and import V6.
There was a belief that the I-6 would take lots of work to meet Euro 4
but using T6 project emissions program proved it could be done for $20 M.

At the same time, Asian nations threw up walls that stopped Ford exporting
territory and also Focus if built in Australia. Fitting he V6 to the Falcon was
found to be problematic, much wider and taller requiring reworking of the
inner aprons and a bonnet bulge not unlike FPV Boss equipped vehicles.
