Default Lw focus steering rack failure

Hi all, this maybe helpful to someone out there, I joined up looking for info on steering rack failure we had on our 2011 focus, the local Ford service department diagnosed the intermittent power steering failure & said it needed a new rack ( $5000 parts & labour ) that was out if the question so I got a second hand rack & installed it ( 5 hrs on my own ) the intermittent failure of the power steering problem still existed, then eventually became a permanent power steering failure, so the next line of thought was either the replacement rack was also failing or the wiring harness was faulty.
Checked and replaced the power steering fuse in the fuse box, no change.
Pulled the air cleaner out & got access to the battery box , took the cover shield off the positive terminal links on the end of the battery compartment, there was a line of heavy duty bolt attached fuses which connected the positive terminal to the starter motor and other accessories, the one on far RH side of the vehicle tested as an incomplete circuit, I unbolted the fuse, tested it again & could get a circuit by wiggling it, I prised the cover off it & it appeared to be continuous & unbroken, it hadn't blown but had cracked in half. Fixed the fuse & the steering has been faultless.
Thanks
