Remove the top half of the air manifold intake (its in 2 parts). Put a small stool in front of the car and a blanket across the engine and then climb up and lie flat across the engine and you can see and access the top bolt from the very back of the engine with a standard ratchet. Way less niggly.

You removed the top half of the BBM? Man, that seems like a lot of work to access one bolt
I found that you can get to it from (nearly) the front of the engine with a series of extension bars. It's still by no means easy, but once I figured it out it cut down on niggle time significantly.
