At least in Wait Awhile the government builds, operates and maintains everything, even if we have to wait a generation for it!

That's why we have governments isn't? To set laws, protect the citizens, provide essential services (health, policing, communications, electricity, transport) and to build the infrastructure to provide the services for its citizens by way of taxation. Someone somewhere decided that privatisation is the way to go. Hre's the proof .... no profits for board members/investors/share holders = no infrastructure or services.
