Yup agree on this. Any busy time of the year heading south from Birssie I use the Summerland Way. Mt Lindsay highway (highway by name only from about Rathdowney) is very ordinary up to the QLD border, but once over into NSW, it's pretty glorious.
I try and do it a few times a year on the motorbike as well.
