As far as questionable maintenance is concerned, I think it pertains to all airlines as they scramble to cut costs to provide cheap flights.
On my last two trips to America with Northwest, the Airbus A330's I've been on have been involved in "incidents". The last one was the worst I have encountered in hundreds of hours flying over many years.
Midway over the Pacific between Honolulu and San Francisco the starboard engine blew an oil line and had to be shut down. Sitting in an aluminium tomb for three hours hoping the port one kept going till we reached the mainland, and then engaging in an emergency landing at Portland with fire engines and ambulances lining the runway was not my idea of a good time.
Later, on checking the Aviation Safety Network site
http://aviation-safety.net/index.php, I found the "incident" hadn't even been reported.
Further checking revealed that Airbus's have had innumerable "incidents" of the engine oil lines blowing.
