It will though, cause VW premium. I would assume they will have a few more standard features over the equivalent Ford though, to help justify the extra RRP. But I would expect them to 3-4k more.

Not in dual cabs though, which 99% of the market is diesel. With petrol over $2 a litre, that extra 3-4L per 100 km is going to be a deterrent for a lot of people.
The tide hasn't turned in this country yet. Hard to see it actually changing here anytime soon. Not unless the gov introduces Euro style sale bans.
