Mate has an FG falcon which developed a bad diff noise at about 70,000 km and about 5 years old. He was told by the dealer,that yes there are problems with noisy diffs,Ford will replace it at no cost to him.Way past warranty period but it was a recognised fault so it was repaired at zero cost.
