Having said that, having them somehow convert from IMG codes to thumbnails automatically, would be great!

Also, the mods do keep an eye on people quoting pics in a reply and will remove the quoted pic if they see them.

they're not suggesting that you get rid of embedding images all together, just remove it from quotes.
you would only need to click it if it was in a quote, the original post would be left as is.

attachments don't get quoted at all, which can be annoying if you're trying to work out what the 'quoter' was talking about, a link makes that easy.

attachments also have limits, to which you end up with people deleting their old attachments, which then ruins old threads/posts.

Less work for the mods to do, better for the end user.
