unfortunately when i was younger i went to a gt day in a GT. I had just rebult my first car. I fill in forms and headed down to melbourne. I got there and parked down the carpark. I went up and notified the people i was there. It wasn't until i went down through to start the rally i was pulled up and asked why i was there. I told them it was a gt and all papers to prove it was since purchased in 1970. He laughed and told me to wait. The president rolled up and said there was some mistake and that it was a GT DAY. AND YES I WAS DRIVING A GT. then he looked on my forms and it was dated 8 months ago and it was aproved to come to the event. Then i was told that i was not to engage in the rally and i was to get my money back.
My grandfather was with me at the time due to me being 17 and i was not keen to tackle the mel traffic alone. He being in motor restoring for the past 55 years was shocked and dismayed with the organiser and him being religious says we better do as they say. I had to be picked up off the ground. 4 years and all night working after school at a supermarket for this car to be told that admin failed in there attempt to phase out MK1 ESCORT GT 1970 out of there bi-laws and tried to tell me it was a falcon gt day. but on there form it said gt and any gt could come as long as it was geniuie( spelling). But as i looked at there bi-laws and there from it had nothing on it was advertised in a small fords mag. If you think i was depressed, i was. A letter came to me about 1 month later to tell me i was polite and was thanked for understanding for the situation. They created it and thanked me. SInce then i am always asking questions about rallys and etc. Now owning a T3, i was shocked to see a t3 there at the show and shine and etc in the gt nations in perth this year. Thats is why i asked a question to the club hosting it. If perth couldnt get cars to the event to fill spots. It does raise questions about the event. It does to me. the riley car club of nsw will only have cars that are rileys. No exceptions at all. even to fill numbers up. they don't allow it to happen. I just bring up a valid point. ALso that event i was not allowed to go to was in 1999. cheers

I think what happened is as follows, alot of people drove their cars to Perth ( and good on them, that is getting the cars out in public, & is what it's all about!!!) Some people had mechanical drama's getting their cars over here, & elected not to participate on the track day. Others who have their cars insured for a small fortune would not risk their cars on the track. (Even though thats what these cars were built for!!!) So the event was opened up for anybody who wished to participate on the "track day" only. All things considered it was a very successful event. It's along way to drive your GT from the east coast to the west coast & drive it home again!!! :

Event planning for the 2009 Falcon GT nationals is progressing very well and full event details will be released after the National Association of Falcon GT Clubs delegates meeting being held in March '08.
The Falcon GT Nationals in Adelaide 2009 will welcome all Falcon GT owners and there cars as well as other ford performance orientated vehicles from the past and present. There are always additional classes at the show'n'shine or driving events for non Falcon GT's, not to boost the numbers but because there are many Falcon GT owners with other performance Fords that might not have there GT available during the time of the event. The event occasionally asks other motoring clubs to assist in the running of event activities and welcomes there members to participate where appropriate. As a side note to this thread and any others posted on the 2009 Falcon GT Nationals link, please contact the Falcon GT Club of South Australia via its web site or the 2009 Nationals web site for answers to specific questions about your own vehicle eligibility or interest in attending. As this thread is a public forum not all views/comments/opinions will be those of the organising committee of the 2009 Falcon GT Nationals. |

We have created a stand alone web site at www.falcongtnationals2009.com.au for the sole purpose of promoting this event.
There is a link to send emails on the home page also for your convenience. Regards Ben.

So is this being held at AIR?
Has anyone thought about holding it at the Victoria Park racecourse and using part of the Clipsal track eg.mainstraight start/finish? I would be considering this due to there being access via the city and walking distance from bustops etc. email the adelaide city council and send through what it is you wish to do and whether you are able to camp onsite over those days, or if people wish to they can stay in the motel/hotels close by. city@adelaidecitycouncil.com |

A.I.R is on top of the list for motorsport activities at the moment. Vic Park is a great spot but as the Clipsal 500 is usually being set up or dismantled during Easter unfortunately we usually can not use this area.
The HQ for the 13th Falcon GT Nationals is in the city and accommodation details can be found here; http://www.falcongtnationals2009.com...ommodation.htm Entry forms are also now available: http://www.falcongtnationals2009.com...ry%20forms.htm

I wouldn't want to create any competition here, but entry numbers so far are;
WA 37 NSW 35 Newcastle 2 QLD 18 Victoria 12 Geelong 1 SA 12 Tasmania 5 Total as of the 20/06/08 122. A big thanks to all who have sent in entries early. Only seven months left to get entries in before the goodie bag/merchandise cutoff. Order forms for dinner tickets and additional merchandise as well as entry forms for the motorsport day will be sent out in a couple of months.

Don't know what you mean by "a black ban on most hotels"? There are many hotels close to Nationals Head Quarters with prices to suit most budgets.
If you wish to attend the Nationals without a car you are welcome to stay at either the Hotel 208 or the Chifley( http://www.falcongtnationals2009.com...ommodation.htm )which have double rooms from $143 per night which includes a full breakfast. Please mention you are booking for the Falcon GT nationals to get the best rate. The only hotel exclusively for entrants bringing their cars is the Country Comfort. Just a note to people booking accommodation, most hotels consider the Easter weekend as a peak period and charge a premium or surchage during this time. We have done our best to get a special rate at selected hotels. If you require assistance with alternative accommodation please PM me and I will help to find a suitable hotel.

The Nationals guidelines state you need to be a member of a Falcon GT club to enter the concourse(You can get Falcon GT Club of SA membership at the half year price prior to entering). Entry fee is for "each car" and this gets you a goodies bag which includes an Event Shirt, commemorative plauqe and other goodies, it also covers the cost of entry to the dispaly day and other event offers.

totally agree with you on that cruise along south road up to the hills or through the barossa lots of things to do with a few cars. Any chance where we can put our names down for this? Does it have to members only? Is it only GT's or other Fords allowed to go? Thought I'd ask as there are a few of us with the last V8's that might want to come aswell. Cheers Nickd |

13th Falcon GT Nationals Motorsport Day Update!
Unfortunately, due to a change of Adelaide track office staff earlier this year and despite our regular contact with the replacment track manager of A.I.R, confirmation of our booking has been misplaced. We did try repeatedly to renegotiate the booking but no interest was shown from the Australian Motorsport Club representative. At this point in time we have been advised there is no other event booked/planned(at A.I.R) for the Easter weekend and the operators wish to leave the booking open until something better(for them) comes along. Here are a few lines from recent communication with the Australian Motorsport Club(A.M.C, owners of Calder Park Raceway and Adelaide International Raceway based in Melbourne). “As discussed you advised me that in November 2007 a discussion took place with the Adelaide International Raceway secretary (Adelaide Office)and at this time your organisation was advised no bookings would be made or rates supplied until the completion of the resurfacing of the Adelaide International Raceway Track. This procedure is still currently underway due to the weather has been delayed beyond our control.” (AMC) “Just to clarify what we discussed and previously advised we are not prepared at this stage to hire out Adelaide International Raceway which holds a four day long weekend with the opportunity for ourselves as the venue holder to operate our event.”(AMC) “We would highly appreciate if this is the end of this matter as the choice to leave this date open for Adelaide International Raceway is in place.”(AMC) “Unfortunately nothing is confirmed at this stage so I cannot make any type of commitments for the event. When AIR operates a event I am more than certain no other parties will be involved unfortunately.” (AMC) “The choice to leave this date open for Adelaide International Raceway is in place.”(AMC) We apologise for any disappointment this may cause to current and potential entrants of the 13th Falcon GT Nationals, this change in the event programme was beyond or control. We will have news of an alternative activity for Sunday by the end of October. |

Do you have to be a member of a club to attend this event as a spectator?
Thanks in advance George |
