Default Ford Fusion spotted in Sydney

Hi guys i was driving on the pacific highway in atarmon today and i saw a blue fiesta with stickers all over it and a blue fusion following it with stickers on it, they both had what looked to be laser levelers and cameras on the roof.

i turned around to follow them but i couldnt catch up :( so no photos but trust me i know what a fusion looks like after just coming back from us.

so my question is whats going on?

Ford bogans are changing the car instead of the badges like Holden bogans.

In all seriousness, probably test cars/evaluation cars.

They sound like Google Street View cars taking pictures for Google Maps.

A Fusion ? Interesting.

I saw a semi disguised Ford Ranger ute in East Melbourne yesterday, which is strange because I thought they were already on sale ?

Ford Australia evaluate Ford cars from all over the world for a variety of reasons, both for comparison/evaluation against local variants or doing testing on behalf of another Ford arm elsewhere in the world. FoA have extensive facilities for the latter and as FoA were involved in CD4 development I would suggest the car is here simply for ongoing development purposes or for a variant for another market.

What did Ford Oz have to do with CD4 development - you're not thinking that because an Aussie styled the Lincoln CD4 that Ford Oz was involved are you?

Mr Mays also revealed that the Ford Australia design studios had a hand in the look of the new mid-sizer.

“It was styled in the US,” he said. “But, because we’re working as a global design studio, we have 11 studios around the world. I will tell you that Melbourne did have an input on the car, and from Cologne as well.

I've seen one of PD's Fusions a few times. They also have a Taurus, Explorer and Edge. Few Mustangs floating around too, including a Boss 302.

I had a look on the Ford USA website.
2013 Fusion will be a Mondeo wearing a Fusion badge, so no speculation that Ford Aus. will be bringing it here.
Maybe Ford Aus. are testing and comparing the Hybrid model?
Maybe a Ford USA commercial comparing the hybrid to the Fiesta (also sold in USA), but why bother doing it out here.
Thats about all I can speculate at the moment!

looks like that one but I think the stripes looked more like a goldish color and the bulge on the bonnet looked a bit bigger but I only got a glance at it near the Lara exit of the Baccuss Marsh road about 5 months ago

Already drove a 2010-2011 Fusion....Thought it was underpowered. It needs a Turbo arrangement, to be "accepted" here.

Wasn't accusing you of making a bogus thread... just usually these threads start off with pics (what about a camera phone?)

Anyway. Time to get some local site members here to have their cameras ready in the car. Love to see the new Fusion testing on our roads.

I spotted these same 2 cars on Wednesday afternoon (January 18), this time in Strathfield. Both the Fusion and the Fiesta, with the cameras on their roofs and large 'Left Hand Drive' stickers on their rear.

They were parked on the side of the road, I'm guessing on a lunch stop. From what I could see, the Fusion wasn't a hybrid... or at least wasn't badged as such. Looked a lot more like the 'sport' trim level they have over in the US.

Interesting thing was that the Fusion was actually causing a bit of a stir - I noticed a few people stopping to look at it as they passed by. Being the first time I had seen a Fusion in the flesh, I actually thought it looked pretty average - especially compared to the current Mondeo which we have and definitely average in comparison to the new Fusion/Mondeo just unveiled.

Hadn't thought of the 'Google' angle. I guess they would have US-sourced cars to drive around in to take the required photos, so perhaps that explains it.
