Default $5000 fine?

For wearing a t-shirt that offends Catholics?

Not sure if this thread has been made by someone and deleted, but seriously. What happened to free speech? What happened to free-dom? Bloody hell.

Edit: News article

Cool

Need more details!
What is it all about? Did it happen to you?

Personally I'd offend catholics on every step but since I'm a scientist (molecular biologist) I don't see much of people that believe in those things! Thank god

Its for youth week. If you wear any clothing whatsoever that offends catholics while the pope is here you get fined.

I think I know the t-shirt you are referring to.

It's the infamous Cradle of Filth one yes?

Some kid got arrested in QLD for wearing it last week.

EDIT: Nevermind. Hmmm, I'd love to get my hands on the uncensored version though...

Can they do that? Is there a law saying I can't wear certain things? I'd sue them through UN!

Crikey, I'd have thought there were more important issues in the world, like remembering how often to wash one's hair and what to eat for breakfast...

Are you talking about this incident?

But surely that story is not as stupid as this story : : :

I highly doubt they could stick charges based on the clothes you wear.... Especially one as timid as an anti-religious shirt or similar.

The blame can easily go to those who produced the clothing.... and then follow the chain on and on.....

More media crap if you ask me.

EDIT: after seeing the above post...

I have brothers who wear that exact shirt very often.. I have seen that shirt many times.. Funnily enough, I never thought it could get you arrested.

Im not one to get into religious views here, but lets say I walked along the street with a shirt saying, "Satan is a *&#^", where would that leave me?

I believe the kid has no case to answer.. Just a typical angst teenager showing his personality. Good on him.

Silly people has nobody here heard of youth week? The week the pope is coming and is screwing the whole transport system up? As well as half the city? Its a coming event later this month - You wear anything that looks ridiculous or offends catholics and you get slapped with a $5500 fine. You go nude, and its a $1000 fine.

Its good to know I can show the pope my balls but I cant wear a t-shirt that says something like 'wear condoms'.

RIDICULOUS.

The "Jesus is a C" one has nothing to do with religion. There is only one obscene word in the state of QLD (well 3 but Pauline and hanson have gone out of regular usage) and that is the "C" word.

To write or say it is an offence up here.

As far as offending religion of any type, more people have been killed or maimed over history for doing that than any other thing so it is probably a good idea to stay out of it.

i honestly cant believe you guys think its fine to wear a shirt with"jesus is a c " printed on it. if i saw that person or any one of your brothers wearing it, i would have to really contain myself from punching him square in the jaw. i am not contradicting the religion with my thoughts of violence(before anyone starts), i am no bible basher, i just think it is a real stupid, rude and disrespectfull thing to do. only reason those shirts are worn is because we all know christians will not stab you for it. to all those try hards, id like to see you wearing a similar shirt with a deragotory(sp) slogan about mohamed in the bankstown area. a $5500 fine will; be the least of your worries. show us you individuality there will ya!!

Christians like Jesus. People with those shirts dislike Jesus.

It's unfair, he could find Christianity as offensive as you find his shirt.
I don't like Christianity, it's caused far too many deaths over history.

Any way, why has this turned into a religious thing?
I agree with Flappist about that particular arrest, also I'd like to add that many would not sing the same song if the shoe was on the other foot. For example, while at the local shops with your children you see a young lad with a t-shirt reading ""All scientists are C****", or a young aboriginal boy wearing a shirt reading "White men are racist P*****", do you still think it's no big deal :

Makes sense. Sir Joh never had one, nor used one it seems. Makes sense that its still considered a mystical creature.

I've just come across this thread and wanted to say one thing.

Now regardless of my religious beliefs (Yes I'm a Catholic but not really a practising one, havent been to mass in years), anybody who wears a shirt saying something like that deserves every last bit of crap they get from it. WTF is wrong with society that someone feels they need to wear a shirt like that - if my son came home wearing a shirt like that it'd be up his *** so fast he wouldnt know what hit him.

Yes I swear, yes I use that exact "C" word but FFS you DON'T need to wear it, this sort of stuff is why we end up with bogan morons living off our tax money. Get some bloody common sense and respect - not for religion neccesarily, but moreso just for those around you. Would you wear a shirt like that in front of your nan? Don't think so.
