Default Site trace

While the site was down today i traced it's route to look for any problems, i see this site is based in Sandiego in the U.S ?
I though this was strange, is it cheaper to host in the states ? as the connection speed would be much better in Aus.

Almost 12 months ago when we looked at starting this forum we reviewed the available hosting options both here and overseas. While dedicated servers could be had here at similar annual costs the cost in this country for excess bandwidth utilisation made it an easy choice to opt for A+.

We average around 180-200 Gb of traffic per month and that simply isn't available in this country at a reasonable cost.

Cheers
Russ

Its an absurd predicament when it's cheaper to pipe the data from overseas than it is to do it from a capital city within 1000km of the majority of users. Still, whatevers good to keep the forum afloat.

Yeah like AUS $$$ Per GB is BULL-D-U-S-T compared to US 00.x(cents)

I was paying I think $150p/month for my hosting in US(dedicated) - like 160gb space and 1500gb(1.5tb)+gb bandwidth .. and i never had a down time....I loved it cause I could install game servers/scripts/mirc servers etc etc.

You would think the Aus companys would match the competition, a lower profit contract must be better than no contract.

Half of them use Telstra's infrastructure and the others need to recoup the investment they have made to install their own.
It will only get worse, if Telstra get their own way and get sold they will put the squeeze on smaller operators using the infrastructure they put in place with public money, if they dont get sold they will use their (almost) monopoly to maximise their profits. The Australian public lose either way.

Tote

OOPS, that got a little off topic, My Bad :
