I've been going to the local Brew Barn, brewing my own beers. They taste so much better it's not funny.

If I could be arsed cleaning bottles and brewing, I'd drink home brew exclusively. As it stands, I don't have time to do that all the time, so Boags Draught and Corona come in handy! And Hoegaarden when available.

If you do you will find Boags Draught there it is a compulsory line so they should always have it in stock

I cant believe guiness is getting such a bad wrap, fair enough you dont (well I dont) knock off a 6 pack in a setting but having one with dinner (depending on what it is) is great.

Goes well with oysters, pies, hearty meals.

Cant remember if I posted this but there is a W.A beer called wahoo...my god, another watery tasteless waste of resources.

Guiness is great, but you've got be in the mood for it.

Worst beer I've ever had was some South Australian Stout.... ugh I think the Soya sauce factory nearby mixed up the bottles.

Guinness is okay. The Guinness here is not the same as the one in Ireland. Ours is locally brewed once again...

Abbotsford Invalid Stout is great for the price.

All those 'Millers Chill' 'beers' are because of the metrosexuals drinking their Coronas. Argh, don't people know that lemon is there to hide the skunkiness of the beer, but they've made it an image thing.

Boags Draught and Premium are almost the only large-brewery beer that I would buy.

Not cheap, but a change is good as a holiday.

James Squire isn't that expensive really, considering a top, top beer costs 8-12 bucks a bottle (330ml).

But Cascade used to make a KILLER Amber Ale that I reckon ran rings all around James Squire's...but the bastards got rid of it and instead put into their 'Crafters Collection' some puncy Green Beer for the ALP, and some low-carb DIY-Castration beer.

Sick of politics and image getting in the way of my damn beer!

But you are right...Squires makes some nice stuff, but I reckon it's quite reasonable for the price.

I tried Wahoo...was pretty crappo.
Gage Roads aren't bad. Give them a go. They're a WA Brewery but priced average for its market, the product is okay.

Not a big beer drinker (Much Prefer Jack Daniels...) but tonight i went out and got a couple of different Little Creatures and James Squires brews to try (Its pretty warm here today, Perfect Beer Weather!!!). Pale Ale by Little Creatures i wasnt a fan of, the James Squire Golden Ale is nice, but the Little Creatures Pilsner is really hitting the spot. Still have a couple more in the fridge but they arnt going to last me till bed time :(

I went to Dan Murphy last night and thought I would try a few beers mentioned on this thread, while there I got a few Little Creatures and James Squire. I'm very sorry to all who like them but I cannot drink fruity or floral beers they just don’t go down right to me. I also don’t like those wheat beers.

On a side note I found some single Fosters at DM aswell so I will drink it to compare to the one I had overseas.

Anyone else tried VB Raw Dry Lager. For a lower carb beer it's great.

Yep, and I can't agree.

It is being advertised as a Pilsner, and has no noticeable trace of Saaz. It is too much like an Australian Ale than a Pilsner.

James Squires, Little Creatures, Fat Yak and even Murrays, not to mention Wicked Elf and Toohey's do a better Pilsner than Coopers.

If it is the Pils you like, try Squires first. You won't go back to the Coopers.

I haven't tried that but i am growing very tired of brewers putting out low carb beers (they all have one now) but still not delivering one that is half decent. I couldn't give a toss about the carb content of my beer anyway but has anyone atcually had one that measures up to a half decent beer?

I tried the XXXX summer beer (low carb) or whatever (looks like carona...tastes just as bad) it was very average. It was not offensive per se but i wouldn't pay for it (i was drinking it free at a mates place). Flat as usual and atcually tastes like a watered down XXXX gold. which is probably is. Alcohol content of 4.2% doesnt make it all that 'light' niether so why bother....

Currently enjoying a James Squire Sundown Lager - nice and refreshing, something that you could drink after a hot day of mowing lawns, which I feel you couldn't do with their ales as you really need to drink them slowly to appreciate the full flavour.

Don't get me wrong though, I bloody love the JS ales and pilsners, but I am glad that they have something like this now, because there is no longer a need to buy dodgy Heineken to quench my thirst. My fridge can now be almost 100% James Squire.

100% agree. It has been out a little while and i was very impressed with it when i had a taste recently. Myself and a couple of mates were having a steak and while two of us went for JS ales (on tap) the other, 'non beer drinker' asked me what i would recomend. Having never tried it (or knew it existed) i said, well you don't like ales so try that JS lager.... He thought it was great. So i had a taste and i was up for one next round. Very refreshing and certainly alot easier on the palate than the ales. Still prefer the heavier tasting beers overall but a nice lager with a steak after a hot day in brisbane...could do worse....

As for 100% james squire...well not a bad choice at all. But surely a JS ale drinker has room for a little Little Creatures? LC pilsener, pale ale etc.

Mate get a home brew keg setup and you only have one big bottle to wash lol. It is the only way to home brew, you can start drinking only days after filling a keg. My setup cost $1000 and I will save over $1000 a year so it pays for itself in the first year. You could do it cheaper than that as I bought a new fridge for $300.
The beer allso tastes far better than bottled home brew (even only 3 days after kegging it).

I had the best beer I've ever tasted yesterday when we knocked off work, its some Belgium beer, made from wheat, the beer is called "Hoegaarden". It tastes awesome.

There are a few wheat beers about...

In Australia, Grand Ridge is my choice. Brilliant.
There is also Beez Neez (honey wheat beer), Redback (which I think sucks), and possibly some others...

My fave is Erdinger, which is a German wheat beer, and there is a choice of Dunkel, Kristal, the regular one (which is what I get - love the sediment), Pikantus?, and a non-alcoholic one (which is actually the most expensive).

Another is Schofferhofer (Germany) which used to be only 3.70 a bottle, but is now $5 a bottle. Erdinger was 5 a year ago, now it's 6 a bottle. Both Dinger and Hoff are 500ml bottles.

Hoegaarden is nice, but it's a bloody rip off because it's becoming too cosmopolitan, with the idiotic masses discovering it, and therefore driving its price up. Used to be only 3.20 a couple of years ago, then to 4.20, and is now approaching $5, and for a 330-350ml bottle, that is simply not worth it.

So give the 'Dinger or the 'Hoff a chance sometime, along with the Ridge. All are great alternatives and far better value.

I thought Hoegaarden was overpriced and overrated. The local wheat beer I had from Lobethal was better IMO and about half the price.

I have to say that for an everyday beer, my favourite without doubt is Hahn Superdry. Goes down nicely, tastes really good (also IMO) and after downing over half a box, waking up hangover free everytime is just a bloody bonus!

One of the nicest beers i've tried was a nice pint of Hoffenbrau, at the German arms up at Hahndorf

I've drank quite a few 1 litre steins of Hoffenbrau as Hanhdorf is only just up the road from me. Got a 1 litre stein at home too.

Personally I'm usually a Carlton Premium Dry fan, but also have Heineken's in the fridge and Little Creatures BRIGHT Ales when I can find a case of them. Love the bright ale.
