Default boss 260 info

What are HLA`s & are the easy to replace & what would be the cost of them each! how many are there? & would that stop my ticking noise on cold startup?

Hydraulic Lash Adjusters (lifters). Could be the timing chain tensioners, the replacement of the old plastic ones will stop startup noise. The o-ring fails on the early ones causing them to bleed down and release tension on the timing chain. $250-$300 in parts, $500+ in labour.

Is it just the 2-5 second rattle on a cold start in the morning? There are a few cases of guys replacing the HLA's at around $45 each from Ford. I would definitely get it seen to by one of our Forum Sponsor experts who have dealt with these beasts before.

No it doesn`t rattle on startup if the motor is idling you don`t here a thing!
it`s not until you put it in gear & put a load on it till you hear the ticking noise then it goes away when the motor warms up!

Iv`e tried 0w-30 & 10w-30 but it did`nt make a difference! the oil gets changed every 800km because I do stuff all kms between services, should I try 0w-40 castrol next? or will this make no difference

Could be a good idea to let it warm up for a few minutes before you drive it and give the oil a chance to circulate before you put a load on it...oil pressure?

Maybe, just maybe... you should warm it up, find a secluded area... and do a massive skid to blow out the cobwebs, lol...
