You can just hold in the reset button as well, and it will go away. It works on AU1's also.

D mode also comes with a bonus...The look on peoples faces when you tell them your AU has features that a Merc would have!

And then the face you get when you say your AU is better than the Merc!

what is the use of doing this to your cluster? what does it do? does it show your speed in digital as well? i don't get it :

Shows RPM and speed in a digital read out, 3km difference between the digital display and the needle. Oil pressure and battery volts. Also can be set to just flash Ford on the display.

Took me 1 go with a timer after about 30 goes without.

can be handy to check things like battery voltage and fuel usage, also gives you a fuel tank reading in litres (buffered and un buffered)

Shows a blank screen when you 1st get into diagnosis mode.
Shows a full screen then the Ford screen.
Mine doesn't show oil pressure, Just battery voltage.
Gear position is 1234567.
A/C off is 1100 A/C on is 1111.
Cruise control cant be seen on the display when in diagnosis mode but still works.
3kph difference between digital readout and needle.
Revs are also different but not by much. 100rpm difference at some rev ranges and same at others.

What this thread really needs is a pic of somebody using the function because sounds good but wanted to actually just get a preview of what it looks like in effect.

Unbuffered gives you a "live" reading that if you were driving would be all over the shop as the fuel sloshes around in the tank. Buffered allows you to be moving and takes an average from the sender to give you a reasonably accurate reading.

oil pressure will read 0 in vehicles without an oil pressure gauge ... it's just disaplying that the warning light isn't on (ie: no fault).

I'm pretty sure if the oil pressure light were to be on during a fault ... it'd display a 1

That's from what i remember.

DTE is also shown in the diagnostic mode as well.

when you take off it will drop a heap... say down to 10l the when you brake hard it'll go up to like 60l... (on un buffered)

Option 2 I think ... next to the coolant temp.

I find it easier to do without timing it on a stopwatch. Takes me a few goes to get it but usually no more than 5.

Finally got around to playing with this. I think it's useful and cool. Below is a graphical representation of the button sequence, with second count, in case that helps someone. Why it had to be so complex is beyond me.

just wondering.. is it supposed to show you a digital read out of your speed?
cos i can't seem to find that bit..

Hey guys and gals, I did a video representation on my phone which has bad quality and doesnt have verbal instructions, but shows me putting the car into diagnostics mode. Also directed people to this thread on written response on how to.

It certainly does work, however I put mine back to normal display as I dont think its well laid out. Its funny I have a 2001 Ghia and my friend bought a base model FG ute, and his dash has many more features than the Fairmont. For example the ute has alll the same as I have ie ave kmph, av/L per 100, range till empty, inst km/100 as well as many others, eg litres in the tank, how many ltr used since last fill, time since last fill, averages for that particular tank of fuel as well as averages since last reset and others that I thought were mint. Hmmm FG dash in an AU, now that would be something ha ha.

mmm... i know what its going to be set on in the AU from now on.. have been trying for a bloody long time and have finally got it working..

i also "accidentally" hit the limiter playing with the RPM one too
