Robin had his flaws and demons, as do we all. I enjoyed his 'adult' comedy and have great memories of his 'kids' comedy with my three children.

Just my thoughts

What a great comedian. The first movie I ever saw with him in it was Aladdin. I don't know how many times I've watched that movie.

"FHOOEY! 10,000 years will give you such a crick in the neck! Hang on a second, WHHOOO,OOOOO,OOOOO,O does it feel good to be outta there!"

Without him in the movie it wouldnt have done well.

I even saw his latest stuff, a TV show called "The Crazy ones" where he is the head of a marketing company, and Sarah Michelle Gellar is his daughter who works with him. I thought it was a great show. My GF loves him and SMG. But it was panned by the critics because he was "Falling back on his old comedy routines", and unfortunately it didnt do well in drawing audiences. As a result it was cancelled, and I cant help but think that this was a factor in his decision. Maybe he felt it was a way to bring some resurgence in his career.

"Why do you like ducks so much"

<Insert Gay voice> "Cause ducks are Faaaaaaaabolous!"

I always wanted to see him live. And now I'm sad, I will never get see him in person.

May he never Rest in Peace, to always keep the laughs roaring!

Having read through all these posts several times, with one exception, two underlying thoughts are utmost in the minds of those responding.

Firstly the fact that so many feel saddened by what has happened, whether because he was someone we felt we knew because of his work and or because The Black Dog got another one. I am finding it hard to understand how someone, who knew they brought so much love and happiness to others could think death was the only answer.

But secondly AND more importantly how many of us relate Robin's work to some happy occasion from our past, eg; watching Alladin with my kids and LMAO at the underlying Adult humour that went straight over their heads.

Each of us appear to have a pleasant memory triggered and if nothing else in life, isn't that what we all want - just to be happy.

Feeling sad, I just picture Ramon (Happy Feet) singing Ami Manera (my way)

Joo say, say termino, westrow amore div e doe ..........

Cheers Vincenzo

Seen a quote on Facebook that fits Robin Williams

Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up."

Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor... I am Pagliacci."

Just like to say that the "AUNTY JACK SHOW"was good Aussie humour.Different to Robin Williams which was good Yankie humour.Wasn't it Norman Gunston who also suffered from depression.

O Captain! My Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather'd every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:

But O heart! heart! heart! O the bleeding drops of red, Where on the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead. O Captain! My Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;
For you bouquets and ribbon'd wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here captain! dear father! This arm beneath your head; It is some dream that on the deck, You've fallen cold and dead. My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchor'd safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;
Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells! But I, with mournful tread, Walk the deck my captain lies, Fallen cold and dead.

I have never suffered from any form of depression and I sympathize with those who do, I also have a friend that suffers constantly with depression but my will to see my children everyday outshines any will to give up on life.

some think his life was good with huge amount of money being paid but it is often a hard life

The amazing thing is how complex our brain really is and how every one is different

the brain is one very complex bit of kit and a huge part of the brain is our personality and they are slowly working out how it works with luck in time they will be able to cure depression completely

Some many take there own life

Yeah,I think everyone suffers from some kind of mental problem.I know that I get depressed now & again which is remedied with a few cold ones.The medical profession has worked out a lot of fancy names for mental illnesses which previously would have come under personality traits?!Yes/No.

I suffer from some sort of depression due to major spinal injury I have

one disk removed and the one above it is now torn is a number of places the disk removed is S1 L5 and that is the one used for twisting and turning a lot

I live with a 5 out 10 level pain each and every day and I often get frustrated when i am unable to do things that a few years ago were no problem

I get some weird looks and several people have suggested I am lazy and why park in a disabled parking spot , I have a permit signed by a spinal surgeon

my problem are being able to get in and out of a car I must have the door wide open so I can turn my entire body to get in and out

but I think every one has there good days and bad ones life is like that and there is always some worse off that you imaging being a quad with no movement of any type

Careful mate, word is depression should be talked about but only if your opinion follows a certain line. Dont dare have your own.

Off topic to Robin Williams, but to the above quote I do and have "self medicated" with alcohol and feel better for a while, trouble is the same problem wakes up with me in the morning - I can't keep drinking and hiding.

You gotta address the issue at it's source and work it from there. I've started to do it by seeing a psychologist every two weeks and have enrolled into a mental health care plan. I've also enrolled with a pilot program with MIFQ (Mental Illness Fellowship of QLD) for a 4 week / 2 half day per week session.

I'm not a nutcase by any means, but need help to get back to the man I was and have sought it. My few close friends didn't know there was anything wrong - I think? I've since told them now, and they are very understanding.

Mr Smith - I'm not targeting my response to you personally at all - it's very hard to see what the **** is going on in others minds.

I went to a funeral today of a bloke I had known for 30 years, turns out he topped himself (60yo). Great bloke, married 34 years, three awesome sons, grandkids, plenty of cash, travelled the world, retired 3 years ago - couldn't cope with not working anymore. Go figure, most of us would kill for that.

Sad, but true.

My 2 cents.

Cheers!

My experience is that every person I know who has committed suicide has been an drinker or drug user. I dont belive depression was the root cause, I blame decades of substance abuse that has resulted in brain damage and the lost ability to think clear. My thoughts are that until this root cause is discussed the problem will continue to grow, especially with the increased use of ice. Im not making any judgements on substance use, but I like to call it how I see it.

I wonder if any of them (god bless their souls) were on prescribed meds also?

A lot of prescribed meds are for short term use only, all good psychs will point that out....

cheers, Maka

With repeated use Ice/Meth destroys the dopamine receptors in your brain, so if you abuse it the end result is you feel average all the time regardless.

The challenge comes from if you can distance yourself from it before that happens.
