Default Ford Closes Melbourne Dealerships due to COVID- Sales

Got this from Ford today. Looks like Ford Melbourne are closing down for now and Servicing will be postponed thank to the COVID issue. Wonder how this will affect Warranties though people probably shouldn't be driving much in Melbourne anyway.

An important message from Ford: Ford Metro Melbourne Showrooms are closed to the public. Your Dealer is contactable via phone, email or web for contactless sales enquiries. Ford Service Centres are open for emergency & critical repairs. Please see your dealer's website or call 133673

Great question. I didn't even know I was on this list. Maybe cause I'm a current owner and might have consented to this kind of communication at some point.

You probably have to create an account - thereby giving them your email address as well - and alter the default preferences…

Quite sure Ford service workshops is open for normal business like any other mechanical workshop businesses in Melbourne.
Of course you have to ring and make an appointment instead of fronting up in person.

Yes.. Anything that is non essential service which they have defined. Pretty much everything except for safety related issues.

It's pretty grey area so it's lead a lot of dealerships to close completely.

Some of us remain open, for various reasons that are permitted. The rules have been interpreted differently about 3 times already.

Most manufacturers would be happy to extend warranties due to lockdowns however it appears.

All the dealerships in my area are either totally closed or their service departments are running skeleton staff and only doing Essential and Critical repairs or safety recalls as that is all our trade is allowed to perform if in the stage 4 zone.

Many smaller shops are making their own interpretation of "Essential and Critical" as a job must meet both those requirements to be ok to do.
Apparently several shops (not in my area) have been issued fine of $20000 but there can be a max fine of just short of $100000

Yes, we are permitted to be at work as long as we have our Covid Safe Plan in place and my staff carry their Workers permit while traveling.

We are not allowed to even complete any cars already in our shop unless they meet the criteria.

As a Business, we want to do the right thing for our staff and our customers and help slow the progression of this virus so have temporarily closed our doors, our phone is diverted and we will assess any enquiries and if they meet the criteria, my staff is willing to come in and do our job.

Workers permit?
What like the travel permits Hitler used ?
wow. just wow.

I hope small business owners find a way to survive.

I also wonder if "Critical" or "essential" is defined in the same way the police have defined it for canary's (unroadworthy) in the past. Vic stories I've seen/heard include some shockers
- small rip in a seat,
Handbrake "feel",
One story of an officer sitting in the car and pressing down on the brake pedal (engine off) and saying I suspect its not roadworthy, but I'm not a mechanic, so i'd better err on the side of caution.

I really feel for the small business owner there (and their employees)

There are strict reasons that someone can be away from their home and must remain within 5 klms of home, the permit is for if they are pulled over and gives them the right to travel to and from work, no matter how far it is, one of my guys travels 80 klms each way.
There is also a 8pm to 5 am curfew

Yup, because they all do that - just ask them about the Powercrapola Focus

The Lebonator is stuck in a workshop at the moment, had it booked in 3 weeks prior to the stage 4 lockdown occuring, the place that looks after our cars does a lot of heavy vehicles and fleets and they're snowed under with this stuff at the moment, with my car sitting on the side

I don't mind, I've got a few cars its no big deal.

try from 1928 onwards, focus on propoganda for political gain, i.e. using fear to control.

then try looking up some real facts to build some context with how bad it really is, start here:
https://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.../3303.0.55.004

Note the increased deaths from diabetes and pnuemonia and compare to whatever you want/believe, especially business impact and community health.

then tell me how does travelling in a car spread the virus again?

Tell me how the aged care has been managed (short term) and hospital capacity has been managed long term to deal with the aging population?

Tell me how small businesses is to survive, and how much extra tax you're prepared to pay to rescue small business/ support the 53 currently in ICU (of 6.4million population) due COVID-19:

https://www.health.gov.au/resources/...are-units-icus

I really feel for small businesses there atm. Surely face masks and distancing are acceptable actions ?

Looks like automotive workshops are allowed to do breakdowns but not servicing work?

Rumour mill is flying off the handle in Melbourne with fines, just about ready for that story about the police officer pulling over someone for speeding and then the Worksafe inspector giving back a 'fine' for not wearing their high vis vest

Even breakdown work must still meet the "essential and critical" requirements to be an accepted repair.

Its not far off it tbh.. mate of mine is in uniformed emergency services.. even he has to carry a work permit to leave the house.. even been directed to carry his work id at all times .. one of his workmates was pulled over after a shift past cerfew hours and even though was in uniform was asked to supply his work permit..
Their work permits have to list all the possible shifts they could work for the entire 6 weeks and has a disclaimer of may also be required on duty outside of these hours as duty required.

Funny this.. tonights news in melbourne just confirmed that residents are now allowed to drive to a park etc to get excercise within 5 klm from home.. up to today doing this would earn you a fine of $1650.

Maybe I need to dumb it down. My "genius" comments (based on history) are obviously to difficult for some to comprehend.

In Germany, prior to 1933, guess who increased funding to the police (familar to anyone in vic?)

In 1933 law passes so police can arrest anyone (effective police control) using fear as a tool to get it past the citizens of Germany.

emergency clauses were invoked that permitted the suspension of individual freedoms of press, speech, and assembly

Breaking curfew? get arrested/shot. That wouldn't happen in Vic...
https://www.news.com.au/world/corona...3a3a7402ade09e

Persecution of select groups? how about the lower social economic groups in housing commission flats?

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-...kdown/12423042

Anyway, this week there are only 45 victorians with CoVID in ICU so the travel permits are state arrests are working.
Lets ignore the 18,000 that had recovered prior to the travel permits...

I still feel for small businesses trying to put food on the table during these times.

Persecution of select groups? how about the lower social economic groups in housing commission flats?

Thank you for dumbing it down for everyone on the Forum comrade. We obviously function on a level of intellect far inferior to yours.
