Question EF Fairmont Ghia - Service Light problem

Hi,
I'm new here ... but I do hope someone wiser - may be able to help me.

My 95 EF Fairmont Ghia.... has just reached 200,000 Klms. As you may know... from time to time a small spanner icon - lights up in the dash - to indicate a periodic service is due. I do all of the routine service work myself... and normally at conclusion, I can reset the said service light.. by turning the ingnition to ON and then holding the rest button on the trip computer (10 secs)

However, for some reason - this reset procedure will not work this time.

I was wondering if this is an intended (Ford thing) result on reaching 200k requiring additional reset actions...?

Any help here would be most appreciated.....

Regards to All,

LCGI

SISAN,
I'm glad you could confirm a similar experience with you car..... maybe this particular reset - is done via external computer interface.....?

All I know is - it's damned annoying !

Try holding it in for longer ? I dont believe it should stick on when reaching 200ks. I cant really offer any advice, other then keep trying (for longer), and if not, take it to ford. Im sure one of the techs there will get rid of it quickly and for free for you.

check to see if your odometer is working correctly, if its not then you have the same problem as my car, the dash module is fried.
i just got a price from new oak fraud: $700 for the dash cluster inc. module

make sure you hold the button in before you switch the ignition on.

If you still cant get rid of it, you can try and reset it from the diagnostic menu.

• Held in the reset button ...for as long as 2 minutes... still no Joy !

• Tried both combinations (button first , then Ign-On) and vice versa - no Joy !
