Default Ford Motor Says It Will Hire More Staff/Commit 500 Million to Australian Market

https://www.news.com.au/technology/i...fa2232881e28ae

Ford Motor will commit $500 million to the Australian market in 2020 and is likely to hire more staff as rival global automotive giant General Motors prepares to quit by the end of the year.

After closing the company’s local manufacturing operations in 2017, GM will now “retire” the Holden brand in both Australia and New Zealand, axing about 600 jobs.

But Ford Australia & New Zealand president and CEO Kay Hart says the company is “committed to Australia” and will spend about $500 million investment in 2020, as well as hire new staff.

However, she said any long-term decisions about the future of Ford’s Australian operations would be considered and made by its US-based parent company.

“Ford Australia is committed to our operations here in Australia and we’re excited about what our future lies ahead for us here,” Ms Hart said. “As a company, they will make that decision based on what is right for the corporation globally, but at the moment we are extremely committed, in terms of the Ford Motor Company, is extremely committed to Australia.” Federal industry minister Karen Andrews said with a workforce of just over 2000 people, the government did not expect Ford to follow in General Motors’ footsteps.

I wonder if the best engineers like Rob Trubiani and the like are being targeted by Ford now.

Probably some of the best designers too. Ferlazzo etc.

Certainly a good move to announce something, maybe a bit early as they could of let the mourning process develop a little so the news doesnt get washed out with the Holden news.

But its better than silence, but proof will be in the pudding 6 months down the track and it hinges on more projects coming online. I really hope it continues.

BTW, Lang Lang would make a magic driver training complex.

Apparently Lindsay Fox is already looking at it.

And things work on 5 year cycles mostly. Not 6 months. It's the newsreports about T6 and T4 potentially merging post 2028 that the real question marks reside over. But you'd think that Ranger will continue here till later in the decade. Crystal ball stuff after that. Not many jobs these days have any type of certainty, especially retail, manufacturing etc.
