Just a shame the everest raptor never made it. The “canyonero” looked tough as nails for those that saw it.

In a wheels story about ranger raptor they said only issue was the rear guards, getting them to work with flares for an everest raptor.

All that extra weight over the front end should make for some interesting sand dune landings though.
Diesels aren't light, even small ones.
Wouldn't surprise me if the v8 is lighter.

As for the parts, anyone remember the Tickford XR8s?
The engines came shipped in 175kw guise, Tickford took the heads, intake, throttle bodies off and threw them all in the bin.
I saw the skip fulls of them in 2001.

Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't do the same with the 2L soot chucker

The V8 is any where from 20-40% heavier looking at crate motors.

3.2 diesel is 235kg, 5L is 200kg.
Can't find the 2L TTD specs but in the Ranger its about 30kg lighter than the 3.2.

Wow.. so a 5 litre won't have that much of an effect on balance.

Ford may have hit on something here. A petrol engined V8 ute …… there's an idea.
Now, if they can lower it about 300mm so that it goes around corners as well ………..

Considering, the super ute series is heading into v8's this year and no other manufacturer has a v8 ute here, this would be a real winner by Ford.
Just make 500 of them and test the waters!

Yep, it was actually a miami.

Heaven forbid there's also a S/C L98 V8 conversion available this year for PX II

Interesting isn't how some here just have to pull the wheels off anything
good happening for Ford their dumb-a55 Colorado V8 crashed and burned
where the V8 Ranger Raptor will probably succeed.

I can see this being a $100,000 plus ranger but this is what I'd suggest most people wanted or expected from a Raptor from the start.

Hell if If I was to look at a twin cab this would be enough for me to sway me back from the RAM option instead.

Really excited about this possibility ... fingers crossed it actually happens.

Be insteresting to see what transmission they use?

Ranger Raptor is about 530Kg heavier than Mustang Fastback 10 Sp Auto according to Cars Guide Comparison.

Being a premium model do you think the engine maybe be given a helping hand?

A v8 should have the weight centred about the same as an inline 4 anyway. They both have a row of 4 cylinders stretching out towards the front.

Diesels are inherently heavy anyway. I wouldnt expect much weight difference. Coyote is all alloy and has plastic rocker covers and intake manifold which helps keep weight down from higher up. While the ecoblue has beefy internals, 2 turbos and an intercooler adding weight.

I will be interested to see the weight difference.

Is there any chance they could also use new 7.3L as the perfect tow vehicle and the 5.0L as performance variant?

Doubt it. Requires more than a bigger engine to lift tow ratings.

A beefed up Ranger Super Duty would be a cool idea though.

Now, what are your thoughts here..
a heavier frame, longer wheelbase and longer tray for the crew cab?
That would jack up the gross combined weight rating...

A "Magna" Ranger, make it four inches wider, job done..
^^^^ that would put the wind right up a lot of competitors.

May as well buy a twin cab F250,the overall size would be the same.

Well I would be thinking that an all alloy V8 would actually be lighter than the cast iron 4 cyl.

When I was working on the details for a 302 swap into my 91 4runner back in 1993 weight on the suspension etc was a consideration.

This was soon dispelled when I weighed a 2.8 litre Toyota diesel versus the 302 Windsor as it turned out to be lighter.

So it wouldn't surprise me that an alloy Coyote could also be lighter than the 4cyl diesel currently being used or if not very close to being equal.

[QUOTE=Whistlr;6384017]I don’t think it will impinge but it may save Ford some face for not having the larger truck because right now as desirable a full sized truck may be I think a V8 Raptor could indeed change the game. Enough sales may translate to the V8 becoming penciled in for next gen?

Great thought. With this 2nd tier manufacturer set up it seems manufacturing here just became a little more versatile.

Everest V8 would be epic considering Ford US won’t be bringing the Bronco here. It would look like Ford Au giving them the middle finger by slotting a V8 in the Everest.

I would think the 2020 Bronco would be sold in Australia too , considering Australia has had a lot of input in it . After all the new Bronco is based on the Ranger platform and maybe this might even have something to do with this surprise coyote V8 raptor . The Bronco is being brought back to challenge the market that the Jeep Wrangler has tied down so a V8 Bronco would be epic. I am a bit one eyed though and cannot wait to see this new Bronco . As for the V8 Ranger ....... Awesome

No it wouldn't be, it would still be 100 mm narrower, a couple of feet shorter
and about 1,200 kg lighter..... I'd imagine more like an F100.

The Bronco begin production in the US in just under twelve months,
there is no RHD version so the only way it comes to Australia is as
LHD import that gets converted here with adapted Ranger bits.

A V8 Raptor would be awesome but a V8 XLT would be pretty good too. Realistically and as someone earlier pointed out who needs all the bling of a Raptor. I have been looking at a Ranger for a while but a Wildtrak or Raptor doesn’t interest me, sure if money was no object, but for practicality the XLT or FX4 is where it is at.

I’d do a heavier frame for sure. And probably the raptors wider track to keep costs down.

The yanks have ideas that will pop up.

The potential merging of t4 and t6 as has been reported in the future throws up some options though. Still not sure how it’s going to work.

If this V8 Raptor becomes a reality, you would think it'd go straight into the Superutes category, then Holden would have to jump on the band wagon with Colorado to keep up, and then we'd have a real "market relevant" Red v Blue contest again that fans can get excited about. That in turn would lead to sales for both brands as well as making the Superutes instantly watchable and popular again. That in turn might take the pressure off Supercars to stay as market relevant without sacrificing the spectacle that is Supercars. As long as the Superutes and Supercars ran hand in hand I recon it would be a win win for everyone.

Can you imagine most of, if not all, the Supercar teams running a Superute program as well.... oh, the possibilities..

Quite honestly, it doesn't.
What they're talking about is a single business cost centre, there's talk that
the yanks will take back Ranger after this next product cycle which I hope
is wayyy off in the future.

Man there's no way you can design common frame parts for an F150 and Ranger
not unless the size gap between the two is narrowed considerably.

V8 all the things!

I think Ford will be keeping a close eye on demand and if it's through the roof then yeah I think the V8 will, or at least should be made an option for lower specced models, and the Everest.

My question is which V8 spec will they get? The Mustang spec or the F series spec? There's quite a difference in power and torque, the latter being made for durability with around 300kW and 500Nm. Still stout. Queue the aftermarket superchargers and Turbochargers.

Honestly, Ford shlt me sometimes. They have this complex where they don't realise people exist outside of America. The Bronco should be going global but we'll only get the baby Adventurer thing that's based off the Escape.

This would be a Ford US decision. A big reason you don't want them taking over Ranger.

This is insane but in a good way.
Not so long ago, suggesting Ford would do a V8 Ranger would get you laughed off the boards.
Now we're seriously considering what power level V8 should Ranger have.
Why not:
Ranger Raptor....300kW and 500Nm (F150 V8 cheaper and easier fit than EB V6)
Ranger Raptor R Spec.......Mustang R Spec S/C 5.0 V8...for those terminally addicted.

Honestly, these three engines for Ranger and job done: 2.0 diesel, 3.0 diesel, 5.0 Coyote
Most HP buyers would love the V8 even if it was 300 Kw F150 version, the potential is huge.
