I'll back that up.^^^^
My wife's natural therapist rates that stuff highly! Good natural mood enhancer!
But it reacts with antidepressants if your allready on them.
It also has a very similar sedative effect to Valium and the natural '5HTP' I mentioned earlier in the thread!
It's another way of naturally getting your body to make and release its own Serotonin again.(your brains happy drug)

It's pleasing that these work for you, but I'd just like to add a warning they include with products of this sort: Individuals who are using prescribed anti-depressants or suffer from bipolar depression should not use this product unless under supervision of a healthcare practitioner.

Wow I didn't realise you could get too much serotonin! I suppose it's common sense....everything in balance! Is there anything you havnt had bud?
These mild serotonin boosters really are only meant for people NOT on medication and with mild or annoying amounts of depression. Hence why I know about it thru a 'natural therapist'! Anything serious should probably be dealt with by anti depressants......
For newbies I would certainly give natural methods a crack before jumping headlong into the pandoras box of today's heavy meds!

Result? Absolute waste of time, although the acupuncturist did warn me that it may not work, and that he couldn't personally guarantee any positive results at all. Since then, I've done some detailed research about the efficacy of acupuncture, and the results were disappointing.

Briefly, according to the US National Council Against Health fraud (NCAHF):

NCAHF believes:
  1. Acupuncture is an unproven modality of treatment;
  2. Its theory and practice are based on primitive and fanciful concepts of health and disease that bear no relationship to present scientific knowledge;
  3. Research during the past 20 years has failed to demonstrate that acupuncture is effective against any disease;
  4. Perceived effects of acupuncture are probably due to a combination of expectation, suggestion, counter-irritation, operant conditioning, and other psychological mechanisms;
  5. The use of acupuncture should be restricted to appropriate research settings;
  6. Insurance companies should not be required by law to cover acupuncture treatment; and
  7. Licensure of lay acupuncturists should be phased out.

Another "natural" drug worth trialling is St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum). A 2008 Cochrane review of 29 clinical trials, and a later 2015 meta-analysis review concluded that it has superior efficacy to placebo in treating depression; is as effective as standard antidepressant pharmaceuticals for treating depression; and has fewer adverse effects than other antidepressants.

The usual warnings about taking it alongside other prescription antidepressants apply.

I've had acupuncture aswell over the years......for a few diff things......the only thing that made any diff at all was relief of muscle pain in my back! But in theory, the needles are only doing exactly what a good deep tissue massage does. They trigger the nerves to release tension in the muscles!

As you point out....so much of it is people mentally convincing themselves it's working. Not a fan of anything soo hit an miss!

The way I look at it is different things work for different people. So if acupuncture works for you then keep doing. If it does then move onto the next thing that might help until you find the right one. We're not all the same and react to different medications/treatments

Stay on topic guys.

Irrelevant posts deleted.

I'm not interested in reading threads full of people arguing needlessly. Take it to PM if you are so passionate. If PM is not available to you the, take a hint.

Yes I would say that. Also it takes a long time to come off it (say 2 months).

I stopped it cold turkey cause I couldn't afford it and yeah its not nice.

I'm a bit nervous about some medicinal recommendations appearing here.

Can I suggest that no one should provide any advice or recommendation for prescribed medicines? Your doctor will decide on a particular treatment based on an extensive assessment. What works for you does not necessarily work for others and could well be harmful.

References to generic 'natural remedies' will be watched carefully.

exactly, i was taking a certain prescribe med, read all about it from different world sites, and nothing of the sort, re side effects or affects, did i experience bar the usaual mood irregularities during the transition period from one med to the next that unfortunately I've endured for that piece of mind know that I'm trying at least

Default Re: Depression, Anxiety, BPD

after a fair enough recent comment, with good intent taken, 'is there anything you (ie me) haven't had?'
and its not meant to sound like hypochondria, but i would like to just explain how complex my Borderline Personality Disorder is for both patient and therapist.
A serious mental illness affecting every aspect of life, moods and emotions.
factors leading to BPD can be complex, genetics, personality, experience of trauma and is 3 times more likely to occur in women.
BPD can be marked by
SELF HARM (as simple as bashing the head, punching my self in the face is my usual)
Difficulty relating to people
Feelings of insecurity
Responding EMOTIONALLY to certain TRIGGERS
Feeling OUT OF CONTROL and OVERWHELMED by emotions
DIFFICULTY expressing and experiencing anger
POOR sense of self
IMPULSIVENESS leading to drug/alcohol abuse or RECKLESS BEHAVIOUR
MOOD SWINGS
UNSTABLE RELATIONSHIPS and commitment issues
DISSOCIATION

the upper case parts, at least one if those symptons, are experienced everyday by me and getting a handle on it is very time and energy consuming for me and my circumstances as an individual assessment. there a LOT of variables and disorders steming from/to and individuals must learn and be guided professionally for any such hope of recovery,
i was taken away in an ambulance last night after agreeing with good police responsive actions understanding to my disorder (big call out thankyou officers) after a relapse in a irrational emotional response to a family member resulting in a suicidal remark heard by a caring neighbour, and for the first time, after all my years, a mental health professional suggested DBT Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, now during all that I've read and my attempts at Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, not once had i heard of this.... designed especially for my Disorder. so don't wait people for the world to help, go out there and do not take NO or I don't know for an answer, cause it got me nowhere and NOW WATCH OUT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES BECAUSE HERE I COME AND I WILL BE HEARD TO BENEFIT OTHERS AND MAKE IT MORE AWARE TO THE BEST OF MY ABILTY, (unless of course i decided not to care ...disorder joke, i jest, tis what i do)
