Question Ford Aus Passes on XR6 Turbo Replacement

Can you believe this everybody?

http://click.e.bauertrader.com.au/?q...5e4ee4b6517055

Quite Possibly No Replacement for the family friendly xr6 turbo!
Really! Are we all able to fit our families in a mustang?
I doubt it!
How about A Ford Focus RS?
Yes . . . But it can't tow a boat up a boat ramp, . . Can it, If at all.

Don't get me wrong, the cars just mentioned are great performance cars!
So how about it Ford? How about bringing in the AWD Fusion, . . Before some of us vote with our feet.
Not all of us want to drive 4wd's with poor performance.

My fairmont lacks a turbo, and with my roller trailer, I dread having to pull out in a front wheel drive with 1500kgs of sterndrive goodness in tow. I try not to get the back tyres wet, and they never get onto the moss, never had an issue. But even still? what's the towing rating?

I don't think we're missing out on much guys. 2.7-turbo, not that much torque, very heavy and probably understeer prone, no manual. I wouldn't call that a Falcon XR6T replacement, just a lead tipped arrow.

If PremCar or Tickford or Ford Performance put the 3.5-litre ecoboost in, with the Focus RS AWD system and a manual gearbox, then I'll care. Until then, yawn.

unfortunately the whole Australia market volumes are so low that the business case for these cars doesn't make sense.

The biggest problem is, a V6 Mondeo doesnt exist anywhere. They would either have to arrange for the engines to come from America into Europe to get build, or figure out how to get a Fusion specced like a Mondeo out of the US.

Great Idea! All Ford has to do is put the 3.5L V6 twin turbo like in the states, tune her up to really perform, and make it a bit exclusive with luxury options.
Once people road test it with Twinster AWD system, they'll be hooked and will buy it.
No point marketing being negative about it's saleability.
I mean did they sell all the FPV's they built! Yes?
Well why not a SHO Ford Fusion?
Otherwise with all the higher performance electric cars like Tesla Model X and Model 3, arriving soon, Ford is going to be left way behind in performance (0 to 60 in 2.4 s just announced) and economy in the next couple of years!

They need to go back to their roots; Henry FORD Found (his company) On Racing Development in 1901. True Story!

I like the Mondeo but wouldn't really consider it currently. A V6 or performance version I would definitely consider but until then no.

And that US Fusion is built on a different Platform, same as the Explorer I believe, so there is no RHD development.
Mondeo is also a Hatch-wagon like the 2018 commodore whereas the Fusion is a sedan.

Not quite correct, only the Taurus, Flex and Explorer share the same platform (plus a Lincoln model model or two).

Mondeo is exactly the same as the Fusion. Ours come from Europe, which unfortunately doesn't offer the EB V6 - hence why this engine is not on the agenda for down under markets. For us to get the V6, the Spanish plant would need to be pumping them out, or a USA factory that does RHD and LHD Fusion/Mondeo's.

Personally, I'd prefer the Fusion name over Mondeo - it's in-keeping with Ford's passenger car naming strategy beginning with F.

Thanks good info, so it is actually on the CD4 platform not the D3 as I thought

So we need our cars to come from Spain? do they make a fusion sport RHD?
they drive on the right in Spain I think, so their cars would be LHD

Eu used to do perfomance Mondeos. think ST200 and ST220. Sadly - no longer. They do at least offer 6 speed manuals which is frustrating that we can't get here

Spain is LHD like pretty much all of continental Europe. If RHD is the limiting factor, we're stuck with whatever the UK has.

Maybe the AWD US-market Taurus could find a limited place here if it was produced in LHD. New 2017 update arriving is US showrooms this month.

The 2017 update is just a final update on the 6th gen model. If you were going to the effort of getting Taurus here, why not try get the 7th Gen model on sale only in China so far?

The Chinese Taurus is just a slightly stretched Mondeo anyway. In simplified terms.

Wasn't there going to be a Mondeo ST? Which would more than likely run the same AWD and V6 as the Fusion Sport.

in the UK the "performance" powerpacks are 2.0 Ecoboost (176kW 340Nm) or 2.0 Duratorq (154kw 450Nm) There is an ST-line on the ford.co.uk web site but it looks like a styling pack rather than anything of substance.

ST200 was 150kW and 235Nm
ST220 was 166kW and 280Nm

when you look at those, even though the current offerings are not badged as performance they deliver more power and torque than the old models

Motor Magazine published the wrong torque figure. The Fusion Sport puts out 515 Nm.

Does this mean the closest new car alternative to the XR6T will be the 2018 V6 AWD Commodore.

Lets see what happens when the performance AWD Commodore turns up in 2018.
If people buy, i'm sure Ford will be scrambling to offer an alternative.... They always seem to be on the back foot

Mondaigo or fusion, hmm looks claustrophobic in interior and foot wells compared to a falcon. Maybe the 2018 commodore will look euro opel inspired in design. Time will tell.

I hate to say this about Ford but sadly, I think your right!
They've let Holden have the upper hand in the past by not reacting quick enough or keeping up to the HSV commodores' all around performance!

Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Focus RS, Mustang EcoBoost and V8 for performance, and Ranger as the volume selling all rounder.

Pretty sure Ford have it all over Holden, and the new 'Holden' Commodore isn't going to shake things up much.

have you sat in one though? it's a smaller car sure, although only slightly, but not tight by any means. The only significant issue I've got is rear seat leg room but then again nothing comes close to Falcadore in that respect

I can believe it.

You read the forum and it feels like everyone out there wants what the Falcon used to be.
But Ford don't do that. They look at sales figures, where they see very few people want that, and so they're not going to go to the trouble of bringing in a replacement they think won't sell.

I think people's buying habits are different in other ways too.
When I was a kid, we had one car, and my parents were married from early 20s. I doubt my mother had a car of her own when she was young.

Single people don't think they need a family car, they want performance, or an off roader, or something small and zippy for fuel efficiency, etc. You don't need a back seat for your mates, because they all have their own car.

People get shacked up and drop out a few kids, you probably already have two cars. Do you need to ditch your 2 door performance car when the kids will fit in her hatchback?

My gf and I have two cars between us and no kids. While she would like to have just one car to save money, it would never work.

So people don't NEED the car that does everything, because most people will end up with multiple cars. You can throw the kids in the Focus/Mondeo/Ranger, and still have your Mustang to fang around in.

Yes i have sat in a few, definitely a nice place to be with all the latest in modern interior. Im just used to stretching my legs out while cruising around in my old falcon..
