.
A 2010 C63 for under $40K

Or a 135i Coupe plus plenty left over for a couple of bigger turbos, exhaust and tune.

The BMW 135i's look pretty inviting. I didnt realize how affordable they are with the power they have. 6cyl twin turbo power in a little 2 door got me salivating (225kw/400Nm). Plus I love the 'bulldog' looking front of the E82 models.

Some of the reviews are saying they are excellently balanced.

A comprehensive article on the reliability of those cars and what to expect to fix is here:

Perfectly balanced, the steering feel is fantastic and a pleasure to drive through the twisty bits.

The inline 6 makes itself known when the turbos have spooled up.

Nicely sorted when it comes to getting their power to the ground.

Brembos all round with 6 piston calipers up front and they really respond well to mods.

A bargain if you want a small secondhand coupe.

That's basically a great little affordable weekend weapon with some euro cred. Ive seen some of the 135i (non M Sport) models going for under 30k with lowish km. The 2012-2013 models still look the goods. Not sure what the differences are comparing the E88 to the F20 models though, is it just a face lift?

Yeap a 1 series with a I6 is sweet, even NA.

But I would still get a E46 M3

The one in the photo is an M Sport.
The prices when they were new vary greatly as the performance models could be optioned with a lot of BMW factory bits and pieces over the standard delivery.
The one in the photo has factory fitted piano black kidney grilles, carbon fibre mirrors and lip spoiler, upgraded audio/SatNav, brushed aluminum pedals to name a few.
Look for a 2009/2010 M Sport with options as they won't cost any more than the standard delivery cars and they are only around the $30K mark.

The E88 was a 2 door convertible, the F20 a 5 door hatch.

(2004 – 2013) RWD

E81 = 3 door hatchback
E87 = 5 door hatchback
E82 = 2 door coupe
E88 = 2 door convertible

The E82 coupe & E88 convertible were available in the 135i sports versions and the coupe as the 1M.

135i – 225kW/400Nm engine N54 B30 – 3 litre inline 6 cylinder with twin turbos (2007 – 2010)
135i – 225kW/400Nm engine N55 B30M0 – 3 litre inline 6 cylinder with single twin scroll turbo (2010 – 2013)
135is – 240kW/430Nm engine N55 B30M0 – 3 litre inline 6 cylinder with single scroll turbo (2013)
1M Coupe – 250kW/450Nm engine N54 B30TO – 3 litre inline 6 cylinder with twin turbos (2011 – 2012)

(The N54 outputs 300kW/540Nm in some BMW applications)
(BMW changed from the N54 to the N55 to improve throttle response, low torque, exhaust emissions and fuel consumption and it outputs 332kW & 680Nm in some BMW applications)
(The N54 cars were either 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto)
(The N55 cars were either 6 speed manual or 7 speed dual clutch)

(2011 – 2019) RWD or optional AWD

F20 = 5 door hatchback
F21 = 3 door hatchback

There are two sports versions and both are available in 3 or 5 door hatch:

M135i – 235kW/450Nm engine N55 – 3 litre inline 6 cylinder with a single twin scroll turbo (2012 – 2015)
M135i – 240kW/450Nm engine N55 – 3 litre inline 6 cylinder with a single twin scroll turbo (2015 – 2019)
M140i – 250kW/500Nm engine B58 – 3 litre inline 6 cylinder with a single twin scroll turbo (2016 – 2019)

(The B58 outputs 285kW/500Nm in some BMW applications and the high performance version – S58 outputs 375kW/600Nm)
(The transmission options were a 6 speed manual or 8 speed auto)

All these cars respond well to modifications and because they were released around the world, there are many factory and aftermarket go fast and handling options available along with rims and body kits.

Appreciate that information. Thats really handy to read that and know the differences. Good to learn something new.

Looks like you can't really go wrong but its better to know the differences when it come to paying so you are paying for the right model.

White can be pretty stark and boring but not all.

BMW's look good in white particularly if offset with black accents.

In fact I've seen many white cars that look great if presented right.

Plus so easy to keep looking clean.

I'm anti SUV,

But sign me up for the king of the soccer mum mobiles - 'Holden' Suburban 1500 with 350:

159L fuel tank, with my right foot we could set records for shortest time between refuels.

I'd slam it, put 20" wheels on it and drive everywhere with my arm out the window.

It only has a 771KG payload which seems sort of laughable for something based on the Silverado 1500 and can apparently seat 8 people, it sure as **** aint fitting 8 Australians or Americans in it with that low of a payload in it.

Maybe myself, Cav and we can fill the back with goods from the bakery for the last 50kg of payload we have left

Have you watched Vehcor on YT at all? You could get your fix of these oversized GMC/GM projects and then be happy with your smaller, more nimble DD.

Or maybe a Maserati Quattroporte Executive GT like Crazy Daz said.

https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...SSE-AD-7128475

40k for what is essentially a 4 door Ferrari... And it isn't like much else on the road compared to the Merc and BMW's of this world.

The old man worked at the local Holden dealer when these were new. The MD took one away for the weekend and was clocked on a speed camera at 160k (from memory).
But have you seen the interior fit and finish... Makes a VN commo look like a hand built master piece.

Yeah build quality is absolute junk - I used to own a GMT400 GMC Sierra 3500, which is the same platform.

Must have been built by illegal Mexicans fresh from the farm

Dunno what it is with Americans but they don't efficiently use all the space available to them in their cars either, look at the spare wheel location in that thing, wouldn't you rather have it UNDER the car with a winch setup? Its a big thing to have in your cargo room.

A mates (who I’ve known since primary school) dad bought the top of the range diesel Suburban (maroon) from Holden when they where released.. we used to take it out when they where away (a lot)… at 17 we thought we where gangsta as… but even now I remember how crap the interior quality was and how much bloody diesel it used….. it was barely used because they didn’t like driving it so it sat as a garage ornament to show off until he “sold it” to his mistress son and skipped the country in 2004… apparently it’s still sitting in a garage getting very little use with less than 20k km on the clock…

Would be a riot to try buy it for a few bucks….

Agree, dropping the biggest engine you can find in it helps too!

Looking at this BMW on the weekend.

Been waiting months for the right one and finally one i want is for sale.

It's only jusr above a quarter of 4OK but thought I'd post here anyway! Always loved the BMW 6 engines.

Fiji certified and approved WEAPON

The only way that could be better was if it was AWD with a rear bias

Wrong wheel drive is a bit halal in that chassis with that engine.

Ironically i hadn't read this but saw one earlier this week.

Hardly any exotics in Tassie as no dealers (heaps of expensive cars sure but usually Porsches, AMG, BMW Ms, Range Rovers).

Sounded great but the blue was really flat and underwhelming imo - the guy is a real estate agent.

I'd still have it though.....ha

159L fuel tank, with my right foot we could set records for shortest time between refuels.

I'd slam it, put 20" wheels on it and drive everywhere with my arm out the window.

It only has a 771KG payload which seems sort of laughable for something based on the Silverado 1500 and can apparently seat 8 people, it sure as **** aint fitting 8 Australians or Americans in it with that low of a payload in it.

Maybe myself, Cav and we can fill the back with goods from the bakery for the last 50kg of payload we have left

A mate just picked up the white Holden Suburban povvo pack from Lloyds, 350 Chev, (aircon but manual window) very tidy and clean, however zero books and history… it passed a RWC no drama, and was only $16k. Bargain.

Surprisingly low maintenance, if driven in a spirited manner the main expense is the tyres at $900nz each. Only hassle in 3 years is a window regulator which is a known fault and repair kits with an upgraded design are cheap and easy to get hold of. Plus the sound makes you forget about those expenses.

138 photos? Bit overkill. I don't think a typical issue of Wheels Magazine has that many
