I don't know about AU but if it's anything like EF-EL then the cover is just a press fit with 4 posts into rubber grommets. The cover will be connected to the bag assembly with webbing straps and the whole lot unplugs from the loom and is held in with a couple of bolts. If you drop out the glove box you should be able to get up inside the dash facia and push it out from there, failing that, I used a putty knige with a towel under it to coax my EF one off.

They are held by 4 clips - with a wide blade like a paint scraper you can just prise the air bag cover out - the clips will break as you do so. Because some people are too scabby (esp taxi drivers) to buy new clips for less than $3 each, they replace the cover with glue/silicone/etc. Once the cover is off the whole air bag will simply lift out by hand - no tricks here. But DO make sure you disconnect the battery before removing cover.

You'll find the cover is attached with for little plastic posts which when you pull it off will break. Then there are four 10mm bolts holding the whole assembly in place. I don't think you can get it out without breaking the white clips. They just locate the cover until it deploys and then they break as planned. The cover should just sit back in without a problem though maybe just use a bit of blu tac to hold it in place.

Cheers, Rhys
