What's your distractions .. - Page 2

My distraction is doing what my wife tells me to do in our caravan...

Some random pics...

Some new shelves

A lick of paint on the entry step

Some trim above the fridge

We tiled the ensuite and repainted the walls

Made a cover for the under bed storage

Painted under the roof vent

Converted the range hood to 12 volts

And how it looks inside now...

Most of my hobbies are out door pursuits, fishing, kayaking, just started getting into hunting now I have a license, so not many options indoors.
Luckily I had recently bought a cheapie car for work, I couldn't justify yet another ute for the company, so just grabbed something to throw tools in and maybe a few bags of cement etc. It literally turned up as a trade in as I turned up at the car yard, so it wasn't cleaned and hadn't even been checked out. Engine sounded fine and the test drive went okay so I made a low offer and they took it.
So I have been detailing it in the down time and it is in surprisingly good condition when cleaned up. Interior is great, bodywork not too bad with only a few things at the front to sort out, the engine has loads of new parts still with the part number stickers on them (rocker covers, throttle body, airbox and piping, sensors) all the fluids were fresh and it has a extensive service history all from a Ford dealer.

Really popular in NZ, see quite a few everyday in Wellington and they are mostly V8's as well. Which is good as the parts are readily available and I need a fog light surround.

Was pleased how it came up after taking all the grime off that wouldn't move with just a wash. Looks like the previous owner took great care of it mechanically but wasn't that fussed on the cleaning side of things. Had to pressure wash and snow foam a few times before washing it to get it clean enough to start polishing it.

With pets (maybe not so much cats) there is no politics, they're just happy to see you. Nothing bad about that.

Yep. Even very poorly treated dogs they still love their owner - being in the rescuing field I've heard horror stories yet (generally) the dogs are still forgiving.

Amazing animal in my view.

Ive had 2 rescue cats growing up. Cats are extremely opinionated. But, these ones just kind of got territorial, but not towards the people, they just had found their own place. Always affectionate, never anything bad from a tempremant point of view. Just appreiciative to get fed twice a day, have a nice place thats always warm to sleep, and attention, a solid scratch on the back, head rub, things opinionated cats like. Im not quite sure how dogs are, but only ever having cats, if you have a **** day they sort of work that one out. Turn it on a bit more when it comes to sort of being annoying but meaning well.

Strangely, I had a very similar look cat sitting and watching me whilst I detailed in the driveway.

That and the daughters old Merc all got a good detail, had weeks of time to kill.

I'm hearing you all regarding the pets ..always a fantastic distraction

Missy (border collie) is ten now ..Arthritis , had a malignant tumor removed off her leg on January 2...overweight but still loves the tennis ball..She's got one in her gob if you look close ..

My other distraction yesterday was to hook up and test my new Powercab DCC control to the layout to make sure it was talking to the locos ...It was thankfully ..

Now to start running the signals and point motors ..

My miserable old mate but he's eating his chicken and bleeding stopped (mostly) within a day - My Vet really happy (considering) and rang etc.

I've had a few money first vet's but I'm extremely happy with mine.

Really nice looking cat ...what breed (looks familiar) like an Asian breed. . I lost one of my cats to a snake when he was five . His sister went on to nearly 16 ..Unreal mouser right up til the last few months and bossed the dogs around from day one . they were both terrified of her .

Merlin was a pure bred Birman.

Sadly, he has passed now, but he was an amazing cat...

Thanks . Dogs are best of cobbers and in recent times since Miss's big operation , Daisy has had to take her time when we're out walking . The old girl can just potter around now but she can still get in the car under her own steam most of the time . We get a slow 2k or so walk done most days . She's 29 kilos and should be no more than 22 according to the vet . She was 31 for a while . And she has a largish lipoma too but that doesn't bother her too much .

The locomotive is one of the dozen full sound ones I have, was a nightmare to program because it ran on a proprietry system when I bought it and I didn't know any better at the time . I spent days trying to nut it out but finally lucked out with it . Now it's one of my best runners as it happens . Used it yesterday to try out my never used NCE Powercab system .

....Yep ...They are quite old as I put in the description " from a few years ago " They were Bachman GP 38's BO-BO configuration modeled on the ATSF known as the Santa Fe railway in the red and silver warbonnet schematic .
They ran from the 1960s well into the 1980's before the much bigger CO-CO units took over on U.S mainlines .. Those two are pretty old by my standards as two of the earliest ones I bought when I first got started . Before I began pulling too much apart to set up better for DCC control/signals/ switches late last year once I decided to run the old girls for a little while on some roughly levelled track hence the ice cream sticks and blue foam in places..They really do run great for old tech that's been around since the early 20th century but DCC/WiFi have taken over now . Good old analog though is easy to set up and minimum maintenance is required .

Bachmann entry level EZYTRACK but additional stuff at a later date will be all flex track . Sectional track like EZYTRACK is easy to set up and can be ballasted later to look really realistic which I did with about half of the original layout before I decided to elevate the double track mainline abpove the base board a couple of years ago .

Wish I could find the film of three full trains all with double locos on the old layout on the then three track layout . It's on one of my mini DV tapes that I didn't mark .. One day I'll re find it ...What a racket with three going all at once ..

This is N Scale fellow AFFers for anybody interested with limited space . This Aussie bloke has built a really nice layout in less than half the area I have in this scale (1:160) that continues to grow in popularity . I started in N back in 2008 but still have a bit of it ..One day I might even do it again .

There is a guy up my way on a couple of acres who built an outdoor layout around his property.
When you drive past this place instead of having a regular gate he has a scaled down set of functioning railway crossing boom gates.

roddy, I reckon you would love meeting my brother as he a major train buff, he fine details HO scale Australian diesels and carriages for a few rail shops in Sydney.
