Default How to 'seal' Autographs on a dashboard?

Not sure where to put this? In the interior section? Car Care? Art section?? or Here? I placed it here because I think it's a general topic that some people have been faced with.

I guess that some of you are like me, & have your dashboard/other interior (or exterior) signed by your favorite driver/s in V8SC. Mine is on the dashboard of my fairlane. Now I got John Bowe's autograph months ago. & Craig Lowndes & Jamie Whincups the other week. Dad had his signed by CL a few years ago & it faded faster than a one hit wonder. My JB one is JUST starting to fade a little bit.

My cars dash sits in the sun, all day, everyday. & theres no undercover parking at either of my jobs. (well one has, but that runs by the offices, i.e, carparks have the office number they belong to). So how can I seal them from fading??? I have a art sealant that I sealed my drawing with, but I don't think it will work. Are there any products that can do this? or should I just use a sealer to stop them from rubbing off (even though no one touches the dash) & cover them up to prevent them from fading? Maybe a clear lacquer?

Any help would be great!
Cheers BBII.

P.S. The autographs are in a good quality permanent marker. Couldn't find a paint marker!

Nothing...

Anything you put on there (like floor polish, lacquer or paint) will eventually go yellow, peel off and probably take most of the marker with it.
Where on the dash is it? Can you put a mat over it?
What about using a sunshade?

Next time get them to carve their sig into the dash with a knife. Take a while for that to wear off

No the sun comes in through the side window. I dont think you can get side sunshades can you? Plus a really don't want tobe taking on & off the window 7 days a week. My windows are ony lightly tinted.

There we are. Not sure if you can get a mat for that.

-Cool souveneirs, I can only suggest a mat, and choose your times to proudly display them- I was thinking that. Seal them, then cover them. Display them when I want. Means I'll just have to stop looking them at the lights! :

Attach some velcro to the underside of the front of the dash mat, and also to a piece of fabric. When you want to protect it, put the fabric up to hang over the autographs.

Maybe you can make some curtains draping down with a draw string to open them up to show them off! :voldar02:

I can understand why you want them. I don't get why you got them on your interior?

I can understand engine cover, but why inside? The last thing I'd want in my interior are signatures, especially those of EX Ford drivers.

Did you get the T8 signatures while they were driving for ford or holden?

I am also at a loss as to why people want there interiors graffiti'd, unless it was a classic car. eg: XY GT, HDT ect. each to there own I guess. _

Anyway, Id suggest a clear vinyl adheasive, Like a laminate. Would do the trick.

If you have an ultra steady hand, by a paint pen and go over them...

Well, no 1 reason why I got them there, my car needs a repaint inside & out, bad, problem is I dont have the money, or the time because that workhorse gets driven 7 days a week & covers over a 1000km's a week.

Not much point in getting my paint signed if it's simply going to get rubbed back & painted over. As for the engine cover, I've found she's been running a bit cooler without it. So it stays off. PLUS the dash can come out, for instance, if I get taken out by a kenworth, simply pull out the dash, put it a new one. Viola! Look at that!

It was @ the V8 supercar test day this month (feb) & lowndesy was signing my stuff on the bonnet of my car, so that was easy, & my car was parked right near jamies so I got that easy too...

Yeah I know that they crossed with my team. But I remember Triple 8 for what they did for us. Not what they did to us.

i'm wondering the same thing with my XB coupe. It lives under a car cover most of the time but when i am out driving round or have passengers in my car, i would like it to stand up to a bit of knee wear.

i'd suggest a clear urathane that'll protect, but is flexible enough not to crack. go see a spray painter for best advise.

Can’t wait to get my dash signed by Henry Ford. I’m also on the lookout for Elvis Presley and Ayrton Senna just so I can be better than my “show off” next door neighbour.

He has a CL 65 AMG that has the dash "personally" signed by Adolf Hitler. Damn that’s hard to beat.

Like others have mentioned, each to their own.

In my opinion, it’s a bit like reasoning with a woman. Some try, some claim to succeed but most just ask, why?

Now I would love to see you get those!!! & Come back to show'em off.

Some of you may ask why on the interior. I ask why in the engine bay? -Where NO one can see it until you display it at a show. & As you may have gathered by my previous posts, my beast just isn't show worthy material. So I want to look at them, show'em off to the world. So that way my car has something to make up for it's hard work.

Cheers all for your advice, & you've pointed me in some new directions. Great!
