Default Server Performance Today

We are running a reindex on the database search engine that was started at 0100 this morning and will probably continue through the next 22 hours or so given that it is only through the first 240,000 thus far.

This will have some impact on server response times particularly during the peak period between 1800-2200 but more importantly it will make the search function unuseable during that period.

Cheers
Russ

Just wondering, will it impact on the all-important New Posts query with regards to usability as per the Search query?

It will be and the reindex is likely to take another 24 hours at least to complete but that's the joy we will have to bear if we want searches that are effective. It's a task that has to be done once a year and it will take longer as the db gets bigger.

Cheers

It's about half way through at the moment although it stopped for a couple of hours last night. I'd expect it to be finished about midnight Saturday night.

Cheers

I wish it would hurry the hell up, it's soooo annoying waiting for every page to load.

I've still been finding the forums ultra slow today as well. Is the maintenance still going on, or is it just me and my problematic wireless router?

That would be your router I'd imagine, things are now running normally.

Cheers. It seems to have sped up again now, but I'm finding it's pretty intermittent. Ah well, I should have a new router before long, so it doesn't have all these problems

It is still dead slow here, It is almost to the point that I feel like my old dial-up was faster than this !!!
edit : it took 43 seconds to load this post then another 55 to get back in to edit it and now probably another 45 - 50 seconds to add this !!!

Its still intermittent ere works well say 75% to 80% of time then it goes slow. I bought a new router about a month ago im on ADSL2 connection about 800m from the exchange.
