A beast, but that kind of money is just stupid.

You would have to be buying for the love of it, you would be well dead if you were looking for any type of ROI.

I didn’t know about these. I’d love the Poverty pack GTSR Maloo, but there’s plenty of other ways to spend that money, on something special. If you’ve got $150k to spend, you can probably stretch it to $200k...
Insurance, as mentioned for the W1 ute, would be huge. Probably cheaper to insure a Porsche or Ferrari?

For sale on Car sales at the moment.
5 GTSR Maloos . $150,000-$200,000.
11 LSA Maloo GTS R8s $100,000-$150,000
1 2014 Pursuit $55,000

The bloke with the money to buy this at that price does not care about what he could get cheaper. This is needed for the collection

From memory they made 4. One was kept by hsv and 3 sold to there 3 best customers. I follow one on Instagram called boomer hsv and he has one of them all including a sedan w1 and the w427

Reading the youtube comments, 2 of those 6 were GTSR models upgraded to W1's outside of HSV, but retained the LSA engine

Yeah thats what Ive heard/read as well. Motor Magazine did a story on the W1 ute and an XY GTHO Phase 3 and it was 4 full W1 Maloo's (with the whole package) 2 for Longstanding/big customers and 2 for HSV big wigs, thats on top of the 300 W1 sedan's (every singe one sold out straight away).

Only reason they stopped at 300 Sedans, and didnt offer a W1 ute through dealers was lack of availability of the LS9 engine for them.

Yep even getting the number of engines they did was a task

I'm guessing the LS9 was picked because they already used an LSA so not as much rework.

None of the entry level GTSR Maloos on the market anymore. The one at $200k went up to $210k, and was the only one available a few days ago.
This W1 ute auction might have encouraged some peeps to buy?
Also easy to convince the wife that it could be an investment...

Lol@ Holden claiming the last body welded together is less significant than the last to roll through trim assembly.

The body line builds a chassis and is given a VIN upon completion, that VIN is its identifier, after that it is just a fitout.

The way I read it (& am happy to be corrected). is; the one just auctioned was the last one built but NOT the Last VIN Number......... they're 2 apart.

Be interesting to know where the car with the VIN number between them Is..

Huh, the article clearly says it was the last bodied, the last VIN and the last to be badged, not that the badge makes a difference.
If youve ever been through the plant you'd know that after running through the paint shop they get put in a holding area until they go to VAP for fitout, so the order they roll off the end isnt necessarily the order they are built in but one thing cant be denied, when the final weld was completed on the last set of stamped panels, the body shop ceased to build car bodies.
