Default Mounting a race harness

Hi guys, ive seen some of your FPV & XR guys at sprint meetings when ive been driving my Group N car. I will be doing a few sprints this year in my BF Turbo and was wondering where you guys mount your race harnesses on cars without cages. Do you bolt them through the parcel shelf or through the rear seats (in the crease between the back support and the bit you sit on) Thanks in advance!

Belts really should be as short as possible from the shoulders, you have two pretty ordinary choices there. I would use between the seats as its the lesser of two evils (bit more hold down force).
Ive seen some bad injuries from long belts. You would be scared to see how much they stretch. Is it mandatory to use a race harness in your class?
Harness will stop you moving around and have that psychological good feeling about being safe. But in reality the standard car seatbelt will probably be more secure than a 2 metre long harness.

HeyGrippy,

Most go parcel shelf, but if do, you will need a plate under the child restraint bolts.
There's a req it has to be bigger than a certain angle, so you may find going down to the "crease" will make that angle far too small.

It goes by the CAMS manual - http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/10_...ule_I_Q110.pdf
This is the section with the angles of the dangles......

The supp regs for the event say "a) Must be fitted with seat belts or harness of a type listed in Schedule I of the current CAMS Manual of Motor Sport."

So, for a speed event at club level- only a lap sash is needed- but i'd prefer a harness for peace of mind..............

Cheers,

GBG

Cheers

I used to use a harness in my BF F6 at sprint meetings.
I used the baby harness bolt hole with a hi-tensile bolt & nut right through and going through a 15cm x 15cm square heavy steel plate underneath.

Luckily I was wearing it coming home from a sprint meeting when I came round a corner to find the road coated in oil and went head on into a rock cliff at 80kph. The F6 was written off but all I got was two bruises from the shoulder straps.
