but i don't mean to sound homophobic or mean to be politically incorrect, just a observation of mine, and I've come across quite a few gay boys/men operating the drive thru, and they know how to liase, happy demeanour, professional and thorough with assuring your order is correct on the screen before moving you on... now this is 4 to 5 times at 3 different maccas i frequently visit when taking the oldies for a drive , over the last 10 or so months that this has made an impression on me, so YOU GO GIRLFRIEND.. sorry .. I'm old school but am accepting and trying to relate, aren't i?? Please scorn if I'm out of line.

Most "depressed men" are not depressed, just too scared to be responsible for there decisions.

I'm depressed I live in a society that thinks thats OK.

Read the papers or follow the news and you will soon understand. Breeding a new era of sooks who don't want to be accountable for doing dumb stuff so they blame a condition they don't have but some actually do struggle with on a daily basis.

No need to tissue that,it's common knowledge and soft as IMO.

Reading the papers or following the news is a recipe for disaster, one would rather be uninformed than misinformed. But I digress.

There is a vast difference between the stupidity you may have come across in the mainstream media and the massive struggle many depressed people face on a daily basis. For many, simply getting up in the morning is an ordeal, let alone doing anything else. Their mind is so mired in fog, they can't see past it and aren't able to function in a meaningful capacity.

And there are more genuinely depressed people than you realise. So stop casting aspersions.

The road to depression is a long and convoluted one Rob. As much as I respect you, I don't think you made a qualified statement above. People don't get depression/anxiety overnight.

Some people just bounce through life's knocks without a care and move on, some people get hurt by the "whack a mole" game and each hit adds up.

I used to be a shy kid but learned the value of self respect and self esteem in my late teen years - became unstoppable, but not arrogant, just very positive. I built myself a good life and good friendships from this attitude.

Enter a mild stroke which ended my game of 24 years driving cranes and plant, my subsequent loss of income, marriage failure, and moving back into Mum's house to look after her as she had dementia.

I lost my self respect along the way there. Became very depressed indeed. It's not a case of "harden the **** up" I lost everything, marriage could've been saved, but I just couldn't give a rats at the time.

Yes, it's all about attitude, how you're geared and how you approach life - some of us have lost it along the way.

I now wash pushbikes for the rich and famous, a meagre living - not kidding.

Cheers!

Sorry to hear bro...it is a real battle for people like your self. But you never complain or moan just take every new day as a blessing and go forward. It's credit to you.

I admire your ability to admit it and fight it but as usual I'm not crapping on sick people or there battles...but been judged as such by over precious knobs is all.

Well researched. We should get rid of all uni's and schools and just rely on the media to educate us like you have.
Tell me doc. Where did you earn your medical degree? You seem to have the all answers and a strong idea what causes it so why not market a cure? Plenty of suckers out there are willing to pay for your expert guidance and vast experience. Guarantee you'll make more money than driving a truck.

I once had the same opinion. I thought people who suffer depression sit around all day feeling sorry for themselves blaming other people for their bad choices. Wrong. You want to hope you never suffer it. Try reading the whole thread instead of leaping in with zero idea of what depression actually is. You might learn something. Then again, you probably won't.

I hope you never experience the effects of genuine depression, because your HTFU attitude won't help you one bit; the harder the unit, the greater the shattering...

Oh and if you don't have anything constructive to post, refrain from posting at all, this thread isn't a soapbox.

Yes you do,cos I don't agree that most that say they did this action because they were depressed.

Don't need cert to tell right form wrong so why do I need to prove my self to any one just to have my say. Never did I say I think all depressed people are fakes and never did I put crap on any depressed people but I did say there's waaaaaaay to many fakes out there.

Now as fr certs I bet most on hear are not happy about our refugee program in Aust atm and have said so but where is there certs ? But you don't need a cert do you cos you can have that opinion cos it's peoples lives right?

Again we are breeding soft era of men taking a easy way out for there actions. That has nothing to do with depressed people it has to do with fakes. I suggest everyone learn to read first not judge.

I never cease to be amazed at just how prevalent this kind of human behaviour is in our decadent Western societies, dealing with our 'First World problems'.

I have just spent the last 18 months living in the 'Third World' in and around people dealing with poverty on a scale that most Westerners just could NEVER become accustomed to. What has amazed me is the resilience of these people who have NOTHING ... next to NO money, NO proper accommodation & for the most part ... are ALWAYS hungry ... BUT you never hear them complaining ! They just 'suck it up' & get on because there is NO assistance from Government. There is NO Centrelink to hand out free money, there is NO Medicare to provide free medical treatment, there is NO 'subsidised' rentals for low income earners ... there is just a daily struggle to stay ALIVE !!!

I have rationalised that these people living in the most attrocious conditions where there is no care from the government whether you live or die ... these people just simply do NOT have the 'Luxury' of being 'Depressed' ... and believe me, they have GOOD reasons to be anxious & depressed ! Instead what I see in them is they just accept .. and make the best of what they have.

Would love to take my kids there and show them how nice their life is ... instead of whining about not getting a new $100 Xbox game, they could see people including their kids living on the side of a 6x lane highway in a packing crate built humpy with a leaky tarp for a roof. NO running water, NO bathroom, NO toilet, NO electricity ... absolute, abject POVERTY !!!

Depression seems to be a luxury that us decadent Westerners are afforded ... something that people who really do it tough in life, don't have the luxury of 'suffering' from !

For me, the last 18 months has helped me see the world in perspective and understand what a PARADISE we live in, here in the luckiest country in the world !

Just my 5c worth !

Nope will write what I like cos it's forum run by people who let me. You should learn to read the msg not judge and hate on. I'm sure dole cheats annoy you too like they do everyone and my whole point has been on fakes not a sling fest on sick people. Every seen people bung on a sickie ? This is the new age of sickies when they need to wake up as there not sick some are. Yes have encounterd it and helped my sister and sil thru it and have mates that are but you all think I don't know anything about it LOL. Had we not encouraged our sister in law daily she would not be with us I reckon. No what do I know.

But as txt can be mis-understood I'll take you just assumed cos my words were not as per the rest I must be hated and wrong.

Again need to make our people loud and strong and help those that need it not turn everyone into a bunch of mitten wearing gooses who can't help our selves when 1 thing goe's wrong so instantly the claim is depression. Yes we all feel down but honestly Gary Lyon and co didn't appear depressed but I bet there were made out to be afterwards.

Soft, when they know right form wrong but don't take responsibility for there actions, instead blame a sickness.

Wow...awesome and honest reply. First world problems.

A mate said to me once, depression the new virus. I agree cos many do not do that hard yet complain about feeling down for a day or 2.I have mates who do strugle and feel for them but they did grow up in a hard life styles but they always talk and just move on.

By and large this thread has been an area of support for those who have or aware of issues created by mental illness.

I accept that contrary views may be held, that some believe it is all a cover up for a variety of other things.

On the other side, I have had some private exchanges with people who have posted on this thread and they have found it an invaluable source of support through tough times.

I'd rather see the thread continue in a positive vein, there is no need to make your point and then make it again and agsin and again and again........

Have your say and move on.

No misconceptions at all. You put it out there in your first two posts. By your own admission your evidence is media based only. Your confusing people with genuine diagnosed depression with those who's grievances with others is making them depressed or sad. Diagnosed depression is NOT about feeling sad or being a precious bunch of fake sooks. Try reading the whole thread and you might learn the difference. The only one here that needs to 'grow up' is you.

Again with ACA? Again your still basing your professional opinion by what the media tells you?

It's going to be hard to enter an 'internet argument' over the 'real' problem when you don't even know how to identify the problem in the first place.

If ever anyone needs an example of a bloke with a chip on his shoulder, this is right up there.

Funny how no one has taken the time to read this post.
