Who buys a muscle car for the interior? If you want a better package don't buy a muscle car... The fact that the FGX XR8 has the miami makes it a better (Muscle) car than the SS

If I want other stuff I wouldn't buy either

It all comes down to intent...

If your just interested in a drag queen and occasinal mash of the pedal, by all means get the supercharged FGX XR8.

If your more into track work i'd go an SSV because it's a well known fact that
both the MIAMI and to a lesser extent LSA have inadequate engine supporting systems to keep the furnace from imploding.

Hence i keep coming back to this formula..... AU2/3 Forte + 408W + TR6060

It would fark all the FGX, LS2's, LS3's sideways and then some!!

I bought mine for a number of reasons
1. I wanted one of the last production V8’s made by Australians while I could still get one
2. It was built in limited number
3. It was a GT in XR8 clothing
4. The finish and tech standard was better than the SY Territory that I had

I was happy to wait 9 months for it to be built to my order and it was mine.

I enjoyed owning and driving it ( apparently it had a radio but I enjoyed the note from the Miami more )

After 2 1/2 years of ownership I sold it to another enthusiast ( with a whole 1,700 kms on it )

Did I regret the purchase - no way and I was happy with what I bought
Did I think the SSV - redline was a better package - yes but it is what it is

Not at all, but the miami outweighs anything the ss has over the xr8.. as I said, if I was after all round package and going fast I wouldn't buy either. At the end of the day you are buying a muscle car for the motor.. just my 2 cents

People may not like this, but what the SS had over the XR8 was cosmetic style.

Also, what both have is huge modification potential. Anyone into ‘muscle cars’ is probably also into modification and customisation.

i actually much prefer the out side of the FGX for style and looks over any of the holden offerings from the 90's onwards

I once hired a Commodore rental car from Adelaide airport.

After I fried the rear tyres at the roundabout, I pulled into the servo to find out what this thing was...

….sure enough, it was an LS3 SSV Redline.

I was gobsmacked at how well this thing went, and it DID drive a LOT better than the bevy of Crummydores that I had driven out in corporate world for the decade before...

Better than a Ford?? Which Ford??

The XR8/GTs were no compromise race cars......not tweaked towards company executives in any way whatsoever - and this has a lot to do with why we love them so much.

I love my G220 everydayer right now....but I MUST get a GT to put in the garage while I can still find one!!!!

Which engine is stronger??
Let me put it this way....should I put a 351C or a Barra Turbo in my 75 F350? Should I decide with my heart or my head???

I have a September 2017 Caprice V. Absolutely love it! Why the Holden, because Ford stop making the LWB LTD's 10 years prior.

Apple and oranges bud, you're comparing naturally aspirated V8 engine to a large capacity DOHC 6 cylinder engine with forced induction, variable valve timing and one that makes peak torque at circa 2000 RPM, the Barra is a beast.

A fairer comparison would be LS3 v Boss 290/302 or first generation Coyote.

Barra and Miami vs LSA or LT4 is an apples to apples comparison, they're all running forced induction, keep in mind superchargers blow goats from an efficiently standpoint compared to turbos.

Yeh I get what you mean mate, but for a car that cost 20k more than the FGXR6T you'd expect it to at least be built better. The FG spanked it in every way except for driver position. Maybe I was expecting too much but the VE HSV compared to my VY HSV was junk.

It’s not ugly by any means, it’s a good looking car. I think my criticism with it is that it looks too tame and sensible. The designers went with very ‘safe’ styling.

But of course, looks are all personal preference.

Of the modern Falcons, my favourite still has to be the BA, quite bold styling in XR and GT models.

No issues with the roadholding or stability on corner entry or exit in the holden, although the steering is zombie like in its feedback.

On the othe hand I can't say anything positive about the FG falcon chassis apart from the fact it went backwards from the AU onwards.

Holden at least had the wisdom to widen the track on the VE quite considerably to lessen weight transfer on cornering.

Ford on the other hand loaded 1,900kg and 335kw into what is still dimensionally the equivelant of an AU.

The result quite simply is an understeering pig on entry to snap oversteer on exit due to the one leg up attitude promoted by the weight transfer.

I'm sure everyone loves their FG's and FGx's but the truth is that they handle like a boris.

Here’s what I mean about ‘safe’ styling. You’d be forgiven for thinking these were the same model of car at first glance, but one is a Mondeo, aka Fords answer to the Camry.

But the Falcon FGX is much more brutal masculine- the Mondeo is feminine in comparison

Yes exactly. Brutal on the inside, but Mondeo on the outside. The outside doesn’t match the insides. Hence why I say it lacks in the style department.

Pretty much.. I'm pretty sure I even read it in the initial FGX Release reviews... It was designed to fit in with the, at the time, current Ford Design principle (Kinetic I think is the name for it) in Europe so the reason it kind of looks like a Mondeo is, well, they are kind of meant to...lol...

But really, it’s kinda like Toyota releasing a new high horsepower Supra but making it look exactly like a Camry.
