Worth noting that Australia has already recorded 15 new cases thus far today.

We took a detailed look at Brazil a couple of weeks ago as their response to the pandemic has largely been one of business as usual so we compared how they were tracking compared to the neighbouring countries of Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia and Peru all of whom had implemented lockdowns with varying degrees of success.

Since that time, Brazil has continued to record high daily new case numbers and the trend line has largely been a straight (and steep) upward line although Argentina has also climbed albeit less steeply and even Colombia and Peru have been trending slightly upward with only Bolivia showing a downward trend.

Peru actually makes an interesting comparison as they were amongst the first of the South American countries to go into lockdown (16th March) and while their new case curve hasn't climbed at anything like the rate of Brazil, it also hasn't really headed downward at all and has been growing slowly but steadily. The Government is blaming the behaviour of the people in some regions who have been ignoring the lockdowns and the data would seem to support that theory.

The raw numbers don't tell the real story as there is a big disparity in the population bases of the two countries with Brazil having almost 6.5x the population of Peru so the chart below looks at the case trends per 100k of population.

It is obvious from that data that while Peru hasn't grown at quite the rate of Brazil, they are actually identifying more cases per 100k of population than Brazil. This may well be because they have tested considerably more people than Brazil. Indeed, Peru has tested more than 2,200 people per 100k while Brazil has only tested 345 per 100k so the real case numbers are probably a bit of a mystery.

The graph below might be a better overall view with the cases per 100k of population in Peru being more than twice that of Brazil.

The downside (of course) to having low case numbers is that case mortality rates tend to look high and Brazil is at 6.465% compared to Peru with 2.894% and Venezuela with 1.134%. Note that Venezuela has tested the most in the region with over 2,400 tests per 100k.

The final graph plots the deaths per 100k of population and Brazil and Peru are about level but also way ahead of the neighbouring countries.

Well looks like JobKeeper is a lot cheaper than reported since businesses made errors on their application.

A large amount of businesses put in income rather than employees. I don't understand how you make such an error but I don't know the process. I'm sure many were taking the **** though

Anyways the unity with the states was good while it lasted. I think they do need to open the borders within the next month or two max depending what happens with the relaxed restrictions within borders.

Since you can't go international, it would give domestic tourism a well needed boost. I'd love to go somewhere.

Ages ago I read that there is an ACE2 enzyme that CoViD-19 uses to gain access to its host (us).
Meaning that to some extent it impacted different races in different ways.

Has anyone else read anything reliable on this ?

Enjoyed a nice meal at my favorite Asian restaurant. God forbid u need to clear ur throat of a buildup of thickened honey chicken sauce, and u get the feeling of an immenant lynching from the surrounding patrons. I wonder how many of them went straight home & bathed in ethanol......

Went to an Indian restaurant last night, all the staff were wearing face masks, no dining inside takeaway only.

They were still busy as which was great to see.

Our local Pizza shop owner reports since pandemic he has been the busiest he's ever been since buying the business 4 years ago.

There also appeared to be a new food truck in town last night I spotted on the way home that half the town decided to hang around and try out

I'm curious how Ted got his info? Seems strange to me they would release some of those on the list... If you really wanted to cover up you would make sure they were never seen again or be able to tell their story.

Have noticed a few westerners living in China putting up some vids on youtube. Interesting times.

16 new cases for Australia, including 2 in Queensland and 1 deaths. CMR worsens to 1.434% and active cases remain at 7.2%.

No new cases or deaths for NZ so CMR is the same and active cases drops to 1.9% (28).

The UK had just under 3k new cases and 282 deaths so the CMR drops to 14.262%.

Just over 24k new cases in the USA and 1,293 deaths sees CMR down to 5.936% and active cases reduced to 67.7%.

Other notable points:
The USA will likely pass 100k mortalities in the next few days;
Brazil was back up over 15k new cases again;
I missed it yesterday but Mexico recorded its highest daily new cases (2,973);
Mali (46), Ethiopia (61), Iraq (308),Armenia (374), Bahrain (388), Oman (463), Afghanistan (782), Indonesia (949), Colombia (1,046), South Africa (1,218), Bangladesh (1,873)and India (6,629) all recorded their highest daily total to date - those in blue on consecutive days and in red on the 3rd consecutive day.

Does the federal government have the power to intervene in state matters? I assume their only option would be cutting funding to Victoria to force the state governments hand.

Premier Danmanchu really needs to be pulled into line over this connection with China’s attempt at global domination, disguised as its Belt and Roads initiative!
States should NOT have the powers to negotiate with foreign powers!
Look at the Port of Darwin fiasco, that was “negotiated” by NT gov! (They shoulda be charged with bloody treason!)
