As far as im concerned there should be a complete lock down of all non essential business and services as of Friday, give the people an opportunity to do what they have to and lock them down, anyone who hasn't read the writing on the walls by now hasn't been paying attention and that's on them.
Keep open Hospitals, Emergency Services, Utilities maintenance, Doctors Surgery's, Chemists, Banks, Petrol Stations, Supermarkets, Fruit and Veg Shops, Butchers and Convenience Shops, shut down the rest, if you're not going out you dont need a new pair of shoes, a new dress or some jewellery. Implement an emergency system for schools which caters for only the absolute necessary. Call on every financier to put repayments on hold for 3 months, call on Landlords to give tenants 3 months grace on rents, anyone who fails to comply should be dealt with accordingly. |

The first - the population difference and size of the economy might be one reason. You can see it in ScoMo when he's talking that not only is he addressing a real health crisis but he is trying to protect the country from an also very real financial crisis - depression even. Secondly; no major lob loss? Are you not following the media? Early indication was that unemployment would jump from 5% to 7% - now 11% or higher.

My mate who got laid off worked at a casino. As the attached hotel bookings have dwindled that place got rid of pretty much everybody but a small number of the cheap people who are effectively night watchmen. As his landlord, yeah mates rates rent, what do i do? Yes he will have rent for a few weeks. He pays pocket change really. Im not currently exactly going to say sorry mate we're not mates anymore the streets at the end of the driveway. He has nowhere to go. His brother lives local but with 5 kids, his stable is over full. His parents live up the coast and have no space, and the job prospects arent good at all up there. Its all a bit grim for some people at the moment. I personally am still employed and working, but very concerned about what happens in the near future.

When I closed my workshop a few years ago I just walked out on the lease, stiff **** bro cya later. With commercial leases I imagine there's a lot of coffee shops considering walking on their leases. Some Einstein was fined today for coughing on a 71yo lady in a cop station and telling her he is positive. Then he said he lied. Nice.

Last night Scomo stated Essential Jobs were all the jobs.
I took that as him saying keeping as many people as possible working is essential for financial reasons. Fair. Its interesting though how the work changes so quickly to accommodate our world and whats happening in it....jobs that were "normal" have now become essential services, like the companys manufacturing ventilators. Another example I've just been given is a friend who does plastics fab. They are flat out crazy with orders for sneezeguards, dividers, screens after a fairly slow start to their year. You will probably start seeing these things in all the supermarkets and chemists, etc, if not already |

Problem with Victoria is, most people think Victoria is Melbourne.
During the fire season we regularly experience 38-40-44 deg days for weeks and no total fire bans but the second Melbourne has a 38-40 deg day its panic station total fire ban for the whole state. So do we listen to the feds or do we obey state govco ? Wish someone would make up their minds.

There will be many lessons to be learned during and after this crisis has passed and it has highlighted existing problems long before this happened.
We need to identify the problems, causes, and actually follow through on implementing solutions. I hope that we get through this on the more mild side but we may not. Let's hope for no more natural disasters for a while on top of this. |

Explaining The Covid 19 Virus
THE BEST EXPLANATION OF COVID 19 Elizabeth Hallam Yesterday at 7:58 AM · This was shared by Amanda Howson RNand tells us why this bug is NOT like the influenza virus influenza. This was posted by a friend in Pathology. Thought it explained things really well. Oh OT, ED RN, NSW. I was asked today what is the difference between a influenza and COVID19.... can we just have one day free?! Anyway here is the info to help you all, “Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this with others who don’t understand.” It has to do with RNA sequencing...i.e. genetics. Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year. You get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot. Novel viruses come from animals. The WHO tracks novel viruses in animals (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1, birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once one of these animal viruses mutates and starts to transfer from animals to humans...then it’s a problem. Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity. The RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it, so we can’t fight it off. Now...sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human. For years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human. Once that happens, we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, that’s what decides how contagious, or how deadly, it’s going to be. H1N1 was deadly, but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. Its RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too. Fast forward. Now, here comes this Coronavirus. It existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long. But one day, at an animal market in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person. But here is the scary part. In just TWO WEEKS, it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”. This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity), took off like a rocket. And this was because humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it. And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs. That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1, or any other type of influenza...this one is slippery AF. And it’s a lung eater. And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain S and strain L...which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine. We really have no tools in our shed for this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu. Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him till the Black Plague passed (honestly, I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation. And let me end by saying...right now it’s hitting older folks harder...but this genome is so slippery, if it mutates again (and it will), who is to say what it will do next. !!!! flatten the curve. Stay home folks. And share this to those that just are not catching on."

I'm getting tired of people sharing advice about Covid 19 like the claim about drinking warm water every 15 minutes or taking a deep breath and holding it.
The latest is the false claim that you can call a dedicated number and get a dr to check you out at home if you think you have symptoms I've had two highly intelligent friends forward this type of stuff which is typically claimed to be advice from a nurse at some random hospital. Stop doing it people! Spreading misinformation is not helpful Last edited by xxx000; 26-03-2020 at 05:11 AM. |
