Not sure what rust has to do with mechanical integrity (unreliability) but whatever floats your boat

Also wasn’t it Clarkson who said if you buy an Alfa and it doesn’t break down as you drive out of the showroom, turn around, take it back and ask them what’s wrong with it?

I think it looks stunning from the angle shown in photo of the white car.

Certainly looks like they haven't let form get in the way of function, rear cabin shape makes it look like it has good rear headroom.

Horizontal window line make it look like there will be a wagon down the track.

Would love a base model 4 cylinder turbo with the 6 speed manual.

It does look good, apart from the big air intakes in the front bar that look a bit odd. Ferrari developed twin turbo V6 will be a rocket though.

Yeah the jokes about Alfa reliability have been around for almost longer than Alfa’s.

It’s so cliché it has become an accepted part of the brand’s folk law and you don't have to own one as it's automatically used as part of the gamesmanship when discussing Alfas.

Had a 156 GTA Sportwagon a few years back.
No real problems with it whatsoever during my years of ownership. Fantastic power and sound from the engine, excellent handling with the Q2 diff.
I think this new car could well be pretty special..

Very nice. hopefully it is reliable and this is a sign of Alfa's renaissance.

Then the Fiat group can revive Lancia...... well I hope.

2 Giuliettas in the family and the QV is well into its 4th year and hasn't skipped a beat. They seem to have lifted their game with the newer ones after having such a bad rep in the past.

2 most unreliable cars ever had was a WM Caprice followed closely by a BA MKII XR8 (must've been Friday arvo cars). Both cars at the dealer more than out for a numerous amount of serious faults and were traded in before the factory warranty expired.

Giulia QV with 510hp, touching on 1500kg and 0-100 3.9 seconds... yes please!

These are possibly the full house option package. Carbon ceramics, forged wheels and super sticky pirelli corsa tyres. Looks like they are serious.

I'm guessing it will be manual only though so not to trip over Maserati. During the launch i think double clutch was mentioned but it was in regard to the torque vectoring through the diff.

Agreed. Since the intro of the 147 Alfa lifted their game. But like all cars needed regular servicing & being an unpopular European they were expensive to service.

I miss my three door 147 it was standard except for an aftermarket suspension set up and was far more enjoyable to drive around the streets than my boosted XR6T.

Never missed a beat, no rust but cost me a fortune come timing belt, water pump service time.

Speculation is there will be a 2 litre turbo with around 300hp and a couple diesel options. Unfortunately i think an NA V6 is slim to no chance.

http://www.carsales.com.au/editorial...wrx-sti-103905

Alfa Romeo has announced that it will unveil a powerful new all-wheel drive petrol that will see it rival Subaru's WRX STI.

The new Veloce is set to sit above the current 147kW 2.0-litre but below the Ferrari-developed 375kW/600Nm 2.9-litre V6 QV.

Sticking with 2.0-litres, the new engine comes with around 206kW/400Nm. Available with just an eight-speed automatic, the Giulia Veloce is expected to hit 100km/h in around the same 4.9sec the current WRX STI takes, thanks to the firm's new Q4 four-wheel drive hardware.

As well as the punchy petrol, Alfa Romeo will also offer the Veloce with a more powerful version 155kW/470Nm version of its existing 2.2-litre turbo-diesel that also comes with all-wheel drive.

Alfa Romeo's Q4 system is said to only increase weight by 60kg and, in normal conditions, sends 100 per cent of its torque to the rear wheels. If slip is detected the system can then shuffle as much as 60 per cent of the torque available to the front axle to restore traction and balance.

Featuring large 19-inch wheels both the fast petrol and diesel are expected to get a bespoke chassis tune. Inside, black leather sport seats and a steering wheel mark out the Veloce over the regular model.

As well as the Veloce, Alfa says it will also reveal a new Advanced Efficiency (AE) version of the diesel that's based around the 132kW 2.2-litre turbo-diesel that reduces fuel consumption to just 4.2L/100km with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.

The increased efficiency comes from a new low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation valve, a new air-water intercooler, different gear ratios and a lower ride height. The Giulia AE also comes with small aero-enhanced 16-inch alloys.

Despite its fuel-sipping antics the Giulia AE can still hit 100km/h in 7.2sec and top out at 230km/h.

The Italian car-maker says it will use the Paris motor show next week to also reveal Veloce version of its Giulietta as well, announcing that the small hatch will come with a 177kW 1.75-litre turbo petrol that will only be available with the firm's dual-clutch automatic.

The Giulietta Veloce comes with bigger Brembo brakes, larger 18-inch alloys and a new body kit.

Finally, the firm will also unveil a new Mito flagship that comes with a new 125kW version of the 1.4-lite turbo MultiAir petrol available in the existing range.

Stay tuned for more Alfa news fresh from the French show next week.

Smart move going AWD, kind of shuts down the exact comparison to the 3 and C class even though that will happen.

Love the car, would have been nice to have that V6 in NA form reminiscent of the busso but you cant be too picky.

Price will be key to its success though.

Feeling a lot of love for this car. Great to see it and also the Jag XE as meaningful alternatives to the 3 series and the C class, which are looking pretty dull in comparison IMHO..

And going by FCA's track record of product launches, both here and overseas, we should see this land sometime in 2020 and be massively overpriced because its "European" with "Italian flair"
