A "tacky little car" that has also been a best seller throughout Europe for many years in a row.

Current model also looks much better than this crappy thing though.

I had a year 1986 Fiesta XR2 (Mk2) as my first car (in Europe).
That car was also my first DIY heavy panel beating job, DIY Car-O-liner, supervised by a friendly panel beater who let me play in his workshop to build my first car.
I bought it as the worst banana - side hit wreck anyone had seen, and after pulling it, and after cutting and shutting in nearly 2/3rd of another body shell I had a great DIY-built XR2 that I kept for about 5 years. I put the carburetor in the bin, and fitted K-Jetronic injection from an Escort XR3i on it, and I had 17-inch rims with the first 45-profile tyres seen at that time. Memories from then is probably why I'm sometimes considering getting a new ST Fiesta, but every time I see one I realize how narrow width they are, and conclude I can't be seen in one.

Why has somebody glued their iPad to the dashboard?

Also not a fan of the stick on tablet look, but I wonder how much of the current trend is because there's so much else to stick behind the dash, or are they just trying to put in a bigger screen than the dash can accomodate? Not quite on the Tesla scale.

Personally I like hide away screens, but they tend to be not touch, and further away. But then i'm also quite fine with not having touch screens in a car.

Can't stand touch screens in cars you have to take your eyes off the road to use them. With conventional buttons you learn pretty quick were everything is by touch.

I'd rather have a stuck on tablet than an integrated screen if they insist on putting the integrated screen high up on the centre stack, which results in a boxy look a la Hyundai Sonata/Genesis/Elantra. Putting them in the middle of the centre stack below the central vents gives a much cleaner, more elegant look.

It just doesn't look right to me, it seems like an after-thought and doesn't match any of the lines that the interior has been contoured for. It actually seems like it would intrude on the driver's vision, then again I drive old cars that usually don't even have working radios.

I have NO IDEA why any car company does this. it looks absolutely atrocious. Like it's just been stuck on there with no effort. They all look truly terrible.

I think it's to cater for markets that require a lower spec car.

If they remove that, the hole they need to fill is much smaller.

Just a wild guess of course!

Not really,

If you look at the 2nd and 5th pic in the link provided it seems to be taken from between the front seats at eye level, and the back of the dash can still be seen above the screen.
