Default tell us your inflated COVID sale price wins

with all these cars/4x4's/boats advertised for crazy money are they actually selling?
have you sold one? have you bought one? and any regrets?

I was trying to by an 80 or 105 series cruiser but they all sold within hours so i missed out on the pre covid prices

here is a list of what i have bought and sold during COVID
  • '99 AU1 Futura: bought $1300, sold $3800 (it was a very nice car)
  • '03 BA XR8: bought $5000, sold $5800 (just before stupid prices)
  • '01 hilux 2wd: bought $700, Sold $4500 (had blown head gasket and i fixed it)
  • '08 SY Territory ghia: bought $600, kept
  • '00 VW Beetle: bought $600, will sell soon
  • 11'5 tinny, bought $700, sold $2500 (had lots of offers so sold it)

i want to know if someone has sold a clapped out BA XR6t for $15k where 12 months ago it was a $3k car, and BA GT's that were $15k are now $30k, are they selling?
or AU1 XR6 for $10k? that was a $1k car 12 months ago

Something I have noticed is that carsales prices are inflated, gumtree is a mixed bag and you can find some ****ters or a bargain on FB Marketplace.

Dont bother with fordmusclecar sales, brilliant cars aimed at investors and those with high disposable income.

If you have a Suzuki Jimny, any age, you could probably add $10k to what it was worth 12 months ago.

Having said that, I've had a couple of people offer me good money for my Ranger without it even being for sale. I could probably get $10k more for it too compared to this time last year.

I heard of a 2018 RAM 1500 that was sold back to the same dealer recently for more than what they originally sold it for.

My Everest was worth $31.5k traded in Feb last year. When things got crazy, I thought I'd put it on the market. Got two dealers bidding for it and ended up with $44k. Good time to sell.

I do this sort of thing at least every month, more of a hobby that pays , have been doing it for the last 5 years, so im getting pretty good at picking some beauty's.

Purchased 2008 S class Mercedes from auction just before Covid hit $1078, stolen recovered, gave it a vacuum and a wash, took it for rego, sold it the same night I got it licenced for $10,500.

2005 A180 Mercedes for $356, very slight tap to the front just mis aligned the panels more than anything, fitted a new radiator as it had snapped one of the lugs, re aligned the front, re-licence and sold for $4800.

Last Friday I purchased a 2013 Jayco Stirling Outback caravan damaged RH front corner (stat write off), I purchased it for all the internal parts so I can build a loaded slide on camper for my Canter, absolutely stole it for $548

May I ask where / how you are buying these vehicles?

As for me, I'm soon to list my house in Sydney. Apparently its gaining $2k a week the more I delay!

Does that count?

Both of those examples just blow my mind, in saying that anything holden/ford V8 is a bit different. Simply can not get anything else like it and give it another 5 years and there will be zero chance.

i think i did all bushes, ball joints and brakes for about $1200 myself, add $140ph labour to that and retail prices and that's more than a territory is worth these days, covid prices missed these boring family trucksters.

Yeah I know, paying someone to fix suspension bushes can deem them a write off.

Roadworthys = cheap cars for those who can fix them themselves.

Just not viable for some folk to get it repaired when it isnt their forte to DIY, understandable.

If it came with some bitcoins or meme stocks.

If not you should still be able to straight swap it for an old landcruiser (or a cheap flat in adelaide) by now.

Not a brag, but a regret. Sold by BF Fairmont in 2019 for $3400. Had I sold it during covid, I might've got $6K for it ...
