Default Ford Will Axe The Ford Mondeo in 2022

Hi guys,
I just read that this morning 28th March and i its no surprise to a lot of people.
It was once the biggest selling car in the UK and has been going for 29 years and i guess i am one sided because i have one.

Ive said this before " why on earth didn't ford advertise the Mondeo better'?
This was on the cards that they were going to axe the Mondeo sooner or later but its a bit sad because they are good, reliable, and comfortable to drive.

Another car axed from the Ford Line up what car is next to get the chop from ford?

Was posted a few days ago on another forum. Honestly, I thought it was already dead! It is just a boring car and the Camry has that segment sown up. As much as I hate to admit it, the refreshed Camry is much nicer to be in and has better performance or has the fuel saving hybrid than the Mondeo.

And, as we have learnt from a certain electric brand, if you have a product that is special/unique/"something that stands out" enough, you don't need to spend a cent on marketing. The Mondeo just doesn't have the build quality, fit and finish, technology nor fan backing the Camry has.

And the market want SUVs now.

How global is the Mondeo? Can't find how many countries it was sold it.

There is still a market for large sedans but that's only if the volume justifies the continuation of the model.

Tech wise current cars are safe, reliable and economical. Why not stretch out the model with a few more facelifts and minor updates? Works for Mitsubishi.

They get 3-4 minor updates on the same platform, doesn't seem to hurt sales either.

I'm sure it will be canned from Australia based on our very low sales, but I've not heard that it will be canned globally. Where did you read this?

Still built in China.

Euro Mondeo will most likely end up as a Subaru Outback style wagon in the future apparently.

Mondeo name is gone. Crossover SUV likely to be named Evos. Mondeo is, and always has been a terrible name for a car IMO. The car itself seems very nice though...

I know I'm biased because I own one, but personally, I think the Mondeo is a brilliant car that's been very much underrated by the buying public. Not so much the media, because it always seems to be rated very highly, but for some reason, people are buying Camrys in droves without checking what else is available in the medium segment.

I love mine. It's very refined and comfortable, and a terrific highway cruiser. The 2.0 litre Ecoboost pairs with the Mondeo perfectly, and it's as quick as a naturally aspirated Barra. If I were to have my time all over again and spend $40+K on a new car, I wouldn't change a thing.

Hi Everyone,
Like NX74205 said " I m biased" and yes i am because i also own a MC Mondeo and what a great car it has been and still is.
I did recently spend $1,200 on it a few new pully's and a new power Steering Pump, but you have to look after all cars and get regular maintenance.

We brought our car new in 2012, we traded in our V6 Magna that we had. It had been sitting in the Ford dealers show room for a few months and nobody wanted to buy them because its a Ford Mondeo.

Well 367,604 Km later and its still going strong. My wife and i have been to Victoria, great ocean Rd to South Australia, up to Port Macquarie twice, Coffs Harbour, Armidale and thats just a few places.

It still goes well, nice to drive, and its my mate and one of the most reliable cars ive had . It never uses oil, and still use the same brand of oil in the engine that i did when it was brand new.

Ford has killed a few good cars, Ford Falcon, Ford Fairlane, and now another ford that i think was a good car RIP Ford Mondeo.

back in the day when it came in as a replacement for the Sierra, it was one of the first true 'world' cars the Ford Europe designed - hence the name.

The problem is that fleets buy Camrys but no other large sedan. The general public are buying SUVs and dual cab pickups but not sedans. The Mondeo is not selling in Europe or the US either.

Such a shame, hand on heart my MD Mondeo has been the most reliable cars I've ever owned, I'd even go as far as saying out of all the cars I've owned the mondeo is the best car I've ever owned, even over the piles of Falcons I've had. 2.0 ecoboost is a great engine

As soon as Ford N/A dropped the Fusion the Mondeo was going to struggle on getting and decent development budgets if only going to be a predominantly European market car with declining sales. Wonder if the Chinese built model is able to also survive?

The Mondeo is an interesting one - check out the comments from reviewers on the middle specification 'Trend' Mondeo:

https://www.caradvice.com.au/437805/...-trend-review/

It's the best bat **** boring car in its segment.

I'd consider one as the next daily for a second hand purchase, versus the ZB Commodore on the second hand market its in the same price range but under the hood is better - better spread of torque.

It’s like the Edge, Australia got it just as it was cancelled in Europe,
the market has already changed elsewhere and voted with its wallets
and our market is considered too small to “wag the dog” and go against
what has already changed elsewhere. Mondeo is a nice vehicle but it’s
now without enough buyers to make it worth selling here.

I’ll be pleased if we get the hybrid Escape,a vehicle that would do well here.

Speaking of Edge, oddly the US upgrade has the large vertical screen down the dash, almost like a Tesla, while the Chinese Edge models gains 2 large horizontal screens across the dash like a Merc.

I noticed that the article says that the US update is actually the just superseded Chinese interior and that the Chinese are getting the newer version you mentioned.

Sadly, the CD6 RWD Edge replacement was dumped very late due to costs, it got as far as mules testing late in 2018.

I was in a Mondeo the other day, I think it may have had a Powershift Transmission, shift quality was awful.

MD Petrol variation has a proper slushbox/torque converter.

I think the diesel has the crapola Power****.
