Default Mazda 1.8 DOHC in Place of Capri (Laser) 1.6 DOHC

Hi all

Wifes 1.6 has been cooked and thought maybe a later model 98 1.8 might fit into the 93. Anyone done this??? If so what are the tricky bits.

They are basically the same motor just bigger displacement, I would assume it would be a straight conversion.

Brackets are generally the same, wiring is the main problem here.

Yeah I realised that after re-reading your post and edited..

The only real dramas I had was the drivers side engine mount (which you already possess so.. easy) and the wiring. The plenum and surrounding is a bit larger and basically gives little no room between it and the firewall.. otherwise is fine.

Power wise? Not really worth the money ($1600 all told, inc heavy duty clutch and all new bits) I believe if I had my chance over I would've bought the snailed version (BPT) instead. Though being in SA i'm playing it smart and avoiding regency.

When dyno day comes next month i'll let you know for sure. I got 42.3fwkw with the 1.6 EFI (B6) so we'll see what the BP pulls.
