Default Auction - Peter Brock's 1969 HDT Bathurst Monaro

Being as it's his first Bathurst car I think it will attract some serious collectors, a beautiful piece of Australian motor racing history...

It'll be interesting to watch.
That unrestored HK 327 is a jaw dropper too.

Would they be the seats they raced with?

If they are not the actual seats, the race seats would have been the same stock standard as what you and I would have been sitting on in a Monaro of the time.

I went to the Bathurst auction in October last year of Peter Champion's Brock collection expecting that the offerings would have been the real thing. A lot were not, (replicas,) which was a bit disappointing.
The 1984 05 'winner' presented there, was very much a 'grandfathers axe' race car with a controversy about it being originally 05 or 25. Beautiful restoration, but.
This seems to be the real thing with log books, etc to back it up. Looks great.

I read in the paper that the Monaro was the first car Peter Brock raced around Mt Panorama is expected to fetch anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million Dollars.

Its and HT Monaro 350 and Brock drove it to third place in 1969 his first Bathurst.

I would say Yes to your question as that car would be in original condition and what a great vehicle it is.

Many memories for me there.

1969 was the first time I watched "Bathurst" on tv. We'd been in Australia only 3 years in 1969 and we had a 1965 HD Holden as the family car.

This is when I started to follow Peter Brock and develop an interest in the Touring Car Championships and the "homologation" specials.

I became a Ford fan in 1992 when I bought my first Falcon (EB II SXR8) but always liked Brocky.

Hey GTP534,
Like you I remember watching the then Bathurst 500 in black n white TV.

1969 was the first race for Peter Brock and also Allan Moffat which I followed and did till he retired at the age of 50 years old.

Black n white Tv were showing our age!

I used to love it when my Dad came home from work on a Friday with the Daily Mirror and I would pore over the Motoring section. I remember in particular when the XU-1's were released and the colours - Lone O'ranger, Plumdinger, and many others.

Really showing our age but it's fun on a Forum like this to be able to share our memories and reminisce.

you may get a Laugh at this GTP534!

When I was still living at home I had a 1964 chev with a 5 litre v8 and a mate of mine had a Torana XU1.

If we weren't coming home at night because we were both 21 years old then all our parents wanted was a phone call from the phone booth ( no mobiles then) to say " we weren't coming home".

I am still good mates with the guy who had the Torana XU1 and was at his place for dinner one night and talking about our younger days when he said "remember when we had to stop at the phone booths to phone our parents"?

His daughter then said "were your mobiles broken"? When we told here we didn't have mobiles then she was shocked.

Break it up fella's. I'm 41 and my first T.V was black and white (hand me down).

In regards to the interior, I think I remember Moffat saying his back was covered in blistrers/welts or woteva they were from the seats of the XW or XY.

So comfortable to cruise in but would suck getting thrown side to side racing.

Never cared for that/those monaros but for Beechys - that was the tuffest imo.
Brock was always my no1 enemy being I became a Moff man from Coke Mustang days but I got to like Brock in the latter years and race cars of his I couldn't not admire - A9X and the dayglo VK's, both those cars were hot for oldens
GTP534, took you a while moving from the Darkside lol.....
Good ol B/W watching Bathurst televised from 7am Sunday morn always on the Oct long weekend religiously and the array of Class's racing, wonderful times and very happy being - mature lol......

Coupe king,
your 100 percent right about Allan Moffat and that was at Bathurst.

Peter Brock was saying in a interview I saw once about racing the Holden Monaro at Bathurst in 1969.
He was told by Harry Firth " don't worry about using the brakes Peter at Bathurst.

In 1977 at Bathurst Jackie Ickx went to the pits and said to Allan Moffat " theres something wrong with the brakes Allan"?

Allan Moffat did a lap then returned to the pits and said " the brakes are fine Jackie".

Jackie Ickx said Allan "they don't stop the car"and Allan Moffat said "who said anything about stoping the car the brakes just slow it down".

Like you FTE 217,

I was also an Allan Moffat man from the moment I saw his Ford Mustang racing around Oran Park raceway.

If you read Allan Moffats Book he also doesn't say anything nice about Beechys but he did like the Late Peter Brock very much not just as another racing driver but as a mate also.

I have a car magazine on my lap its dated August 15th 2019.

1.1970 Ford Falcon XW GTHO Phase 11 cant tell you how many miles its done because the ad doesn't say.
Price is $255,000.

2.Ford Falcon XY GT 1970 $220.000.

3. Holden Sandman HZ 1978 308 4 speed $120,000.

4. Ford Falcon XY 500 with K-Code 351 with GS rally pack $135,000.
I have seen prices for GTHO a lot higher.

Did anybody ever think prices would be this high in the future?

Well forgive me if i dispute you and your 'acquaintance' because no information to its lack of provenance has yet come to light, there has been no dispute put forward to support you/your 'acquaintances' claim as yet which an up front an honest individual would do if that individual had said information available......is your 'acquaintance' going to present his/her findings to the proper authorities to prevent this supposed illegal fraud taking place?

You/Your 'acquaintance' would be doing everyone involved a service to bring to light these claims and getting the issue clarified, and prevent the below from recurring, after all they are very serious claims with very serious consequences involved.....if found to be valid.....

Seriously can't we discuss like regular people instead of resorting to childish barbs and repetitious use of "acquaintance" in an attempt to try to make a point.

I was simply restating what the mate told me in a text when I sent him details of the car.

Sales like this are 'buyer beware', he has obviously come across some question marks regarding the car and isn't happy to bid. That doesn't mean 'fraud' or any bs simply that he isn't happy and won't bid despite having the means to.

It's always up to each and every potential purchaser to ensure that they are satisfied enough to actually bid.
I've been and viewed classic cars at auction before that had unsupported claims made about them and simply walked away. I'm sure many of us have similar experiences.

Nothing childish at all mate, and as for the acquaintance, i'll call them whatever makes you happy but when some nameless individual on a forum describes as hearing from "somebody" it doesn't leave a lot of choice in describing them.....

Everybody knows it's buyer beware and any potential buyer needs to do there due diligence, thats plainly obvious and needs no mention, what gets my goat though is when some individual, without producing an ounce of evidence other than stating 'heard from somebody', posts on a public forum that there is questions on it's provenance....

So i'll ask, if your mate had questions about the car did he ask for them to be cleared up, as any serious bidder would? and if not satisfied with the answers what are these question marks? you made the statement/claim so please follow it up...

Funnily enough this is one of the most well documented historic racing cars to come up for auction, it was never in any serious accidents during it's racing career and everytime it has sold it has been put through the wringer to prove it's authenticity and came through with flying colors, the car has been logged all the way back to to it's birth so any discrepancy would be easily verifiable.....

Interesting, i thought it would have got another million over that price so must be a big question mark over authenticity. I dont understand why grays dont authenticate a car of this caliber or maybe they knew all along from the VINS. Oh well, i wasnt in the market for a shed ornament with my bank balance anyway!
