Yep.... when im running 95 octane the car runs fine for one tank.... but on the second it becomes a little depression. I find the 98 octane wastes quicker, but its smoother into redline, and when im working and not ringing the nuts out of the engine, it works easier at 2500rpm

I run BP premium cos I cant get 98 octane fuel up (down?) here. The local BP is consistantly 1-2cpl cheaper than the other servos in my town. Have noticed on trips back from Adelaide that the car does run alot nicer on 98.

Caltex Vortex lately. Get it at the local Woolies servo with my 4cpl discount. Otherwise, if I'm going discount free, Caltex Vortex, Shell Unleaded 95, BP Premium, Mobil Synergy 6000 and other various 95/96 RON stuff. Performance difference with 98 RON? Nil. Economy difference? Nil.

I'd imagine something like a Focus would prefer 98 tho, considering that's still low-grade by Euro standards.

Im my 351C Mobil Synergy 8000 or Caltex Vortex 98 depending on whats around, for the focus I reckon it'll just be run of the mill unleaded.

BP Ultimate 100%...unless I need a splash and dash in which I will go Shell Optimax as there seem to be a few more Shell's around in the roads I travel.

I have a BP Ultimate and Mobile Synergy 8000 preference, with the occasional use of Vortex 98. Don't like Optimax at all. Get very inconsistent performance from it.

What is Shell Optimax Extreme?

Shell Optimax Extreme
The power of 100 octane
With the natural quality of ethanol

Shell Optimax Extreme is a new super-high octane fuel with a minimum octane rating of 100, the highest currently available at any Australian service station. Shell Optimax Extreme is formulated with 5% ethanol.

Shell Optimax Extreme is formulated to deliver more engine responsiveness, sharper acceleration and enhanced power in many modern and high performance vehicles compared to other Shell premium fuels.

Ethanol is a renewable non-fossil fuel produced in Australia. When used in fuel it’s a cleaner burning, renewable component that helps to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, through the formulation with ethanol, Shell Optimax Extreme has a substantially lower sulphur and benzene content than the maximum levels set under the Federal Government’s fuel quality standards. Ethanol is a cleaner burning, renewable fuel component that helps to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions.

Shell Optimax Extreme will initially be available at selected Coles Express sites in the Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra.

I won't be trying it in my Zetec, and knowing Shell it's probably more expensive than all the other fuels they have even though they are using a cheaper additive to it!! (has anyone seen the price of it per litre anywhere??)

I use Vortex 95 due to Caltex Fuel Card on our fleet. I am killing to try Vortex 98, but until they get it here in Melbourne I'm stuck on 95. Trust Caltex to be years behind the others. Odds on chance it will become my fuel of choice once available. I am very intersted to see the economy/performance difference for myself in a car I know inside-out.

We have Vortex but Vortex 98 was there (Sydney) from last December on trial in Sydney with a view to having it here soon, it's a load of crap if you ask me.

Haha, that i didnt realise.... the Indian guy was ****ing me off cause he was standing beside me trying to sell the fuel.... EVEN THOUGH I WAS ALREADY FILLING UP WITH IT. He was giving out pamplets. I think though, that the servos with the petrol have a REALLY cheap price, so that people come in, and then they come up to you and give you pamplets. Cause normal ULP was 107.9.... which was EXTREMELY cheap (most are at 113.9). Hence there was a pretty big line up for petrol! About 5 cars were on Wicks Road in North Ryde waiting to enter the station! haha, have NEVER seen that before

But yea, it was 120.5.... not sure what the normal Opitmax was....

which if it is would mean Shell are ripping your off as the additive is supposedly cheaper and should make the cost per litre of production cheaper!
