Default Power when cold

Anyone notice a BIG power increase when your LS Focus is cold?

I was able to demonstrate the difference this morning when the engine is warm, planting 3/4s through the roundabout it will stick and take off, when the car is cold, doing the same thing the inside tyre starts spinning, which then results in both spinning once the weight is transferred back over.

Anyone else experience this? I'm thinking it could be the rich mixture and cold air not being heated by the intake manifold.

Got it in one.. Cooler engine, cooler air, more air which in turn allows more fuel.. and kapow more power.

PS you're a twit for booting your car around on a cold start.

I'll clarify what I said from my first post, by warm i mean engine running for about 30 mins, compared to "cold" which is car running for about 10 mins, but in 5 or so deg ambient, which at that stage water temp was hanging around 65deg, with intake pipes not yet hot. I run the car for about 4 mins before I start driving and can't really boot it then even if I wanted to due to a school zone leaving my suburb.

I'm not that dumb to be holding redline after startup!

Anyway what I meant is that the Focus responds a lot better to the cold than any other cars I have owned or driven for any length of time. Looks like CAI will be looked into sometime soon.

Hey BlackLS,

How's it going? Yeah, it's great up in the Blue Mountains and the higher you go i.e. towards Katoomba there's a noticeable difference and I've tried increasing the pressure in my tyres by a few psi (to 36) but this is a totally different subject.

It also gets punished in the heat of summer unlike any other car I've driven. For the LR Focus, the cat converter in the engine bay is why it gets so damn hot so quick. Cold air in the morning makes a MASSIVE difference.

I dropped the girlfriend off to work early yesterday morning and the little snowflake was on, that means 2 things:
- The air outside is cold
- My focus will go hard

Maybe the snowflake should be changed to a power light :P

yeah snowflake came on last night and temp dropped to 2º on the freeway, slammed it back to third and it pulled like a 15 yr old with a porno...
