Default mk1 V6 capri exhaust question

I have a question for the people that know. Did the mk1 V6 capri come out with twin exhuasts exiting out from the back of the car or did it just have the single exit on the left? I've seen twin exhausts definately but not sure if this was the way they came. I was just looking at a V6 capri and it only had a single exhaust and it looked stock. By the way I'm not just talking about the exhuast but the cutout in the bodywork under the bumper aswell. Now I'm a little unsure as to what is correct.

HI Ham,
No Australian delivered Capri came out with twin exhausts. All the V6's came out with a single exhaust with a twin pipe muffler at the back exiting from the left side . If ever you see a Capri with a twin system it has been modified since leaving the factory.

V6 Capris had a twin system thru to mufflers in front of the rear axle (no cross pipe before mufflers), then the drivers side pipe crossed over to the passengers side and two pipes into single rear muffler, with single cutout and 2 pipes exiting at rear of car. (i.e. 2 in > single muffler > 2 out)
....so sayeth the FoMoCo manual from May1971, section 50.

Even more great info. I guess my capri will have to have the single exhaust cutout then (it's currently missing that piece of bodywork under the bumper). It's a shame cos I like the look of the twin pipes out the back.

i customised my old 1970 1600 GT, by modifying the rear lower valance panel.
i remade the cutout on the left, mirror image of the right hand side.
and had a dummy tip fitted, i liked the twin look.
ps, there isnt enough room for a pipe to go through there without removing the spare wheel tub.
cheers, craig

yes I agree Alan - when I said twin exhaust what I was eluding to was that they didnt come out as a typical twin system (both sides) although I probably didnt make it very clear after reading my last post doh !

Yeah looks good wogboy. I've seen the twin exhausts with the spare wheel tub still there. I think that's what I prefer actually.

Mine's had the twin (one each side) setup for donkey's and never had a problem with clearance on the wheel tub. It also has no balance pipe so it sounds very tuff - every single person who has heard it will swear it has a 302 fitted; but no, it's the original V6.

I intend to weld up the cutouts and have the exhaust pipes exiting below the rear corners of the Capri outboard of the leaf springs ALA XW/XY GT.

This should give me room to fit the battery where the rear muffler used to be I hope.
