I had a HB coupe back in the day, it was the funnest car I've ever owned. Gutless 4 spd on 4" cross plys with tiny drum brakes, what a laugh. I could flog it mercilessly and race it round the streets, late brake into corners and lift wheels coming out, all without people noticing because it was so slow.

Picture this; 2 HBs side by side, one 4dr and the coupe, 2 guys in each, going 50kph. Back to 3rd and floor it, race on. After about 5 seconds of neck and neck and still barely cracking 60kph me and me mate started rocking back and forth urging the coupe on. With every forward rock we managed to jump ahead about 4"(10cm). By the time we ran out of steam in 3rd and had to slow up for the lights, we were ahead by the length of the bonnet and laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes.

Yeah, I am right with you, I would love to own it if I had the space.

It will probably end up selling for heaps more than the figure it is sitting at now though.

I can't believe the FGX ute also being auctioned.

It'll pull decent coin but being non turbo and manual makes it much less desiresble.

When I read the lot details it said that he FGX ute has never been registered
& it has only done 98kms & only ever sat in Ford Dealership's stock inventory.

I reckon that if I was in the market for a brand new ute at the moment that car would have to be very attractive.

I wonder, as it has never been registered, if it would have new car warranty

as new car warranty generally starts on the date of first registration?

Considering that; You're buying It off an Auction House & NOT a Ford Dealer.

There'd be No warranty...
there'd also be a clause buried in the Auctions House T&Cs

The BF II XR8 which is listed also actually sounds like a very rare & interesting car.

My paternal grandfather’s last car was an LJ fordor in (I think) Egyptian Bronze, can remember it had the smaller six and four speed floor shift. When he died in the early ‘90s, my father and his late brother sold it back to the local dealer (Smallbone Ltd) for something like $1200 with less than 100K on the clock. Would have been a great car to tuck away.

Thats the thing about 'back in the day' sort of stuff. I used to work with an old bloke who bought a xr gt in the 70s, dumped it in the northern territory because he got it cheap but it was being a peice of crap. He regrets it later on. My brother spent 3500 on a vh hdt in 2000 when peter brock was alive. So more or less a blueprint motor in a vh. He smashed it. Write off. 3k was the insurance payout on that. Time and nostalgia plays alot into the value of cars. A toyota corolla will probably get around bathhurst faster then a gtho, not down conrod, but with more modern tyres then what they ran in the early 70s for corners. Well maybe not the best example, and maybe not entirely true.

But, thats nostslgia. Who doesnt want to have something that is effectively analog but yet had some some form of pedigree? The win on sunday sell on monday stuff. Not like these days.
