Default The engine damage - How its going

Well as most of you know from the other forum my car basically imploded.

Today i picked up a recently reco'd EB head and EF rocker gear for a nice sum of $75 from brockfordsrule (thanks again) and with a big thanks to Thanatos for finding out for me.

so i'm basically at a point where i could bolt the engine back together and have it running. From here we still plan to take the timing case of and inspect any damage down below aswell as clean out the sump.
head will be *cleaned up (heh heh heh)* and put back on and hopefully i'll be problem free again

Give the engine a good flush with some shitty motor oil. Remove the sump plug and just pour it all down the galleries, id even go as far as pulling the oil pump and look for shit stuck up there (whilts u have the sump off).

Get her running soon mate.

Yer we can always use more dodgy Bunnings cheap tools!

We were averaging 2-3 bolts before each socket was rooted as we took things apart.

But what do you expect for $1 per socket i guess? :P lol

I can't beleive how quick we chewed those sockets.
Hopefully getting a decent socket set soon so these prob's won't happen again ;)

but first have to get it back together.

Cheapy tools are great! They are good for doing dodgy mods to to make specialised tools. But buy yourself a decent socket set and it'll last for years, not to mention make things easier! I bought a Kinchrome 1/2in set a couple of years back after stuffing around trying to get my head bolts undone with a Super Cheap ring spanner set and a $14 socket set, stuffed around for hours, rounded a few bolts off....then got the good set and had the head off in like 2 mins.

I missed following this on .com

Did ever find the actual cause of the destruction derby under the rocker cover?

Good to see its getting back together now.

I did the same with the EA head gasket change, except a socket lasted an average of 3 head bolts. I worked out that a good socket was cheaper then plenty of cheaper ones.

Good tools are the best investment you can make. I bought a tool kit on sale at half-price from K-mart for $99. It's lasted 1.5 years so far and I haven't broken anything. It's gone through 3 car wrecks and 2 head gasket changes.

I also suggest to anyone with an E-series who ever does a head gasket to buy a proper 14mm impact socket to undo the head bolts and a breaker bar. If you don't have them, good luck!

You can see that all the exhaust ones are WIDE open... intake ones are open a tiny bit :o

You can also see where the exhaust valves are pushed up against the side of the combustion chamber, indicating that all is not as it should be. lol :P

Hmm, valves shouldn't be open on one side and closed on the other... side of the same valve

Edit: should have been a bit clearer!!!

Well, the valves shouldn't be open at all considering the head is off the car! :P

It's actually all of the valves that are bent, but the intake ones are only slightly open, and it's hard to see in that pic.
